Why, when I have finished using Utorrent, stopped seeding, and exited, does Peer guardian continue to work, and tell me it is blocking bad IP addresses?

Surely if I am not using it, it is unnessecary? (DAMN I CAN NEVER SPELL THAT WORD)

i was about to tell you I had, but it was just an avast. ill do a spybot and see.

Its really strange, they are happening really fast as if I have utorrent running or somthing? I defo havent like. im just going to keep it on for now, if its blocking things it cant all be bad

Now, the PG is still running, but not picking up bad things anymore? Im assuming this is related and I can turn it off now? How odd!!

because uTorrent is full of slow and full of spyware.. try Azureus - easier to use, faster and its constantly maintained and updated

uTorrent is much faster than Azureus, it's much smaller and self contained, far less of a resource hog, and its easier to use....

Loosy...whats the actual problem? You will constantly get pinged etc when on the net so it could just be that.

yeah I realise this, but I thought Kerio my firewall would take care of that for me?

If peer guardian is catching things which are slipping past my firewall of death Ill just have to keep it on all the time will i not?

I suppose it's possible, not everything will get stopped 100% of the time.

Some of it could be harmless traffic mind, but then again it may not.

If it's not too much of a resource hog then you might just be best off leaving it on.

Either that or try a different firewall like zone alarm and see if it makes a difference.

Do you connect to the internet through a router or just with crappy cable/adsl modem?

if you set them up correctly for you pc/connection etc then they will be prettymuch the same... speed is more dependant on the tracker than the client if they're set up right.

You still get hits in PG because peers on the torrents you were on are still trying to connect with you, some clients do not flush their cache of other peers when they receive the updated peer list from the tracker in the announce response. If you are using DHT-enabled torrents as well, then you'll get even more hits from peers after you have stopped.

Simply, they're knocking because they think you are still at home.

Btw, PeerGuardian works by blocking ranges of supposedly bad IP's (ie those who are anti-p2p, spyware, etc). Kerio doesn't know that 158.126.021.214 (for example) is owned by the p2p pigs and fascists alliance (FAST), so a connection from/to 158.126.021.214 will not be blocked if it's allowed by Kerio's rules (eg BitTorrent traffic). That's why PeerGuardian is there.

Azureus is the most fully-featured kick-arse client there is, you needn't worry about it's resource use unless you have a pc with under 1GB RAM, or if Windows is bloated and fucked (ie 12 months after install, or Vista...). If a lighter client is needed, go for summinck simple like BitTornado, or for fun try BTQueue (class client ). uTorrent is somewhat ethically 'tainted' for my tastes.

Thanks But ah, I'm not so nerdy on the BitTorrent stuff just for the geekiness of it - my knowledge of torrents came from coding and running some private trackers in my quest to become Pirate King

and increase my porn stash so it's potency causes instant blindness

I'm sure someone told me peerguardian is pointless if you're using it with torrents.

Aye, you're best off with a light client

uTorrent's closed-source, has done deals with a (supposedly ex-) anti-p2p group, been involved with the UseNext scammers, is now owned by BitTorrent Inc (friend to the MPAA/RIAA), and is not a client that I would personally trust.

But it's really down to opinion, if you're really happy using it, and you're not as paranoid as me, then stick with it. But a wee bit of paranoia whilst using p2p is very healthy.

BitTornado is just a simple client, it has hardly any features but it gets the job done. My 2nd highest rated after Azureus is ABC_OKC (oldkingcole fork of ABC, and ABC is built on top of BitTornado), but it's not a client I'd recommend unless you like getting dirty with the options menu.

Don't put me in the same paragraph as Mr Gates though, the Great Thief of Knowledge... Capitalist pig that he is
