PC / Internet Reet here goes.. The PC's currently downstairs in the house but as we are getting a laptop i want to move it to my room as its mine anyways and the proper unit etc is in me room. I was gonna get a 2nd phone line with Telewest and then the net myself and the cheap TV Package only to be told it cant be done, by Telewest themselves. What's the best way to go about it n then have the net in my room and what ££ we talking ? Cheers
It sounds like a wireless router might be the best way - plug it in downstairs, and get internet upstairs (and anywhere on the laptop). You need a wireless router (£50) and a card for each computer (£20 each), plus minus.
Re: PC / Internet get a wireless router or access point and strick a wireless pci card in your pc ??? thats wot ive had to do , moved house recently and the telewest internet point is downstairs in the living room ( it used to be in the spare room of my old flat ) so ive got a wireless router plugged into the modem which lets my pc and both my laptops access the net without any wires trailing up the stairs etc !!! about £60 - £80 for a decent router n pc card id reckon
Spot on, cheers. Anyone got any they'd advise me to get and where from n that or any links ? Probably gonna get it this weekend so its sorted n out the way.
one of these HERE with one of these HERE same set up as mine and its spot on ( the router has came down in price quite a bit too ) use the above store all the time for home and work with no probs m8 !!!
Cheers for the info mate. Do i need to take the PC to bits or owt like that to fit anything and how would i go about getting the laptop rigged up too, would i then need to buy summit else? If owt needs fitting n then shell taken off id be clueless, bit like now really...
aye u would have to take the side of the pc off to fit the pci card but its a piece of piss , side off - slot in - side back on - install software etc !!! if your getting a new lappy then chances are it will have wireless built in so u wont have to buy a wireless card for that !!! if your not keen on taking the side off your pc then you could get a wireless usb dongle instead which just plugs into any spare usb port on ur pc , thing is tho thru experience they dont seem as reliable as the pci cards !!!
