pc help ok...... my dad has just put me a nice new pc together but when u switch the power on, the power lights come on, the cpu fan starts, the chipset fan works, but the comp doesnt boot up, the monitor also recieves no signal..... any suggestions on what to do? cheers
Do you get any beeps? you shoul dget one if everything is ok? if you get none at all i would suspect CPU needs to be re seated or is damanged. also try and run it with just a cpu, vedow card and memory as another device may be shorting it out... try doing it out the case too as the motherboard may be shorted on the case. When building apc its never a good idea to put all the parts in at once but to do it bit by bit and test it at each section you need to start with MB CPU mem and videa card but if that boots up and screen comes on you can add HD CD sound etc etc
how can i if it doesnt boot up...... stick to things you know about, like glow sticks and face paint.....
What CT says is spot on ( ) Sounds like your CPU either aint seated right or has burned out. Also your MB could be shorting out - so yep, try takin it out of the case and sitting it on something non-metallic.
How do you expect it to boot without an OS Sounds like you have a problem, although i have nothing to add to previous comments.
That what i thought he meant thought i wouldnt load up windows but the problem must start as soon as he turns it on
Spot on paul. Chewy - are you using any PCI expansion cards? If so, remove one at a time and try powering the PC up - I had a similar problem with a dodgy network card in one of my PCs a few weeks ago. If it doesn't power up, switch it off and remove the next one. If that doesn't work, start unplugging everything - from the IDE cables to any front of case ports, short of pulling the ATX connectors out of the motherboard. Failing that (if you have a spare PC with a similar spec) try testing your components on their own, GFX, RAM, CPU, board, PSU, etc.
Had a similar prob with my new comp recently built. Check all the power leads to the motherboard. My previous mb only required one connection. My new one turned out it needed a 2nd 4 pin connector attached. Which I missed as previous boards didnt require it.
