pc help

think my pc is buggered when i turn it on its a blue screen saying unmountable boot volume ??

any help would be great thanks.

Last time that happend to me i had to format n re-install xp , it wouldnt even let me do a repair !!

Id wait and see wot other people reply b4 u do that tho m8 !!

Don't reformat! Giz five mins!

Boot up pc, go into BIOS - change boot order so that you can boot from cd/dvd drive

Insert XP cd, when you see the welcome screen press the 'r' key, type "chkdsk /p" (no quotes) and hit enter, once chkdsk has finished type "fixboot" (no quotes), enter, "y" key (I think), enter, "exit", enter - if that doesn't work try inserting XP cd again, when you see the welcome screen press the 'r' key, type "chkdsk /r"

Wish i could of got online to ask u last time m8 , i lots fookin allsorts , tried changing to the boot from cd then trying to repair , but wudnt have it n i didnt know about the other stuff u mention above !!!

First rule of thumb - rerformatting is the last option to ever take, 99.99% of Windows probs are fixable (with XP anyways), so ask someone first (even if you have to wait)!

@ ianmc - you'll have to change your boot order back again btw

I had that message once.. messed around with the XP disc a bit and managed to fix it without losing anything.

It's not, just copy those instructions down and that's it done step by step.

i never know any commands for the recovery console..... will remember those...
