Paula Radcliffe - Unfortunate or usless? Well, what a let down. One of the only guaranteed medals and she pulls up towards the end and cries. A bit big for her boots i think. Travelling seperate from the rest of Team GB, training by herself, staying away from the team and not aclimatising with the rest of them. Now she's under medical supervising and everyone's trying to find out her 'condition' - she wasn't good enough, no mystery. is she trying to cover up her failiure and fake an injury? Once again, the UK pinning their hopes on a few measly people for the odd medal - we lift them to untouchable status and they fall and show their weaknesses like everyone else. Looks like we're only any good at cricket at the moment - and thats shite too.
I think she mentally lost it and that plays a big factor running a marathon in them conditions, she is better than all of them that where running her world record is 15mins faster than the time it was run in. Im sure she will be back, she probs should have stuck to the 10'000 meters where the heat isnt going to be so much of a factor as its not as long and at night. How harsh was that course thou
Radcliffe baffled by failure A tearful Paula Radcliffe has revealed she has no idea what went wrong in her failed bid for Olympic marathon gold. The Briton said fans deserved an explanation but was waiting for test results from a Monday medical, adding: "I feel I've let everyone down."
On The Above Yeah you have luv. Your medical report will say your missing a heart bcos as soon as that lass shot past it meant you were not going to any medal never mind a gold & you then bottled it.
She realised she wasn't going to win a medal and bottled it. It's no more complex than that. Never mind pet, I'm the same - I always fake an injury when I start losing at badminton.
Completey bottled it. She shud have just ran on, she would have earned herself alot more respect than she has right now for battling on in the heat and finishing the race rather than dropping out.
Why should she have carried on though, personally i cant see the point in puting yourself through physical and mental torture when you know your gonna get fuck all out of it
Ok then, why should any team not in the premiership play football, they get nothing from it except wages. Why do all the smaller countries athletes still compete? Why should anyone do any sport when they know they are not going to win? For Personal pride and for other reasons, they are representing their country, they are proffesionals, they have thier wages paid and lottery funding because of normal people like us. When times are going rough PROFESSIONAL althetes should not just give up and throw the towel in. she knew she wasnt going to win and bottled it. If shes got that attitude she shouldnt be there and other british althetes should be there instead, ones who are going to try their hardest, continue to the end and finish the race for personal and national pride, and not just give up when its too hard.
She didnt want to / couldnt finish the race, its her choice and people really shouldnt be so quick to have a go at her, she had every right to be there, nobody can deny that Finishing 4th in the olympics is got to be one of the hardest things in the world, you would be gutted, just knowing you had finished the race would be no concelation what so ever!
Only Basic Insticnt has made any sense on this. The rest are spouting tabloid style shite. Do people actually have any idea of the enormity of an Olympic medal? Especially in an event like the marathon. She does not have a god given right to win because she is from GB. Peopleseem to assume this. We are a small nation. There are billions of other people in the world. Its fucking hard to get an Olypmic medal. She paid for it BECAUSE she went for it! She didnt want to adopt a slower pace from the start and trot in 25th ffs. I doubt anyone could even begin to imagine what she was going through. It looks like physically she just couldnt finish. She had taken it out quicker than her body would allow in those conditions, and simply couldnt go on any further. Also i think mentally when it is all you have worked for, for so long, then the realisation that it isnt gonna happen is just too much to handle.
she went for gold and as soon as she knew she lost it she did'nt have the decency to finsh. still a top athlete by all means and i think she'll come back but she could of least finshed. totaly echo'ing Jill
Vinny man, in the build up to the race it was Radcliffe who was talking about "Winning the gold in the marathon, then decide if I run the 10,000m & then have a baby" She & the British public built her up & SHE FAILED Oh & lets not forget the 2 British women whos preparation was no way near as expensive or as good as Radcliffe's actually finished the race.
