    overdraft advice

right, ive just checked my bank today and after dubai it seems i am £198 overdrawn, now this is due to money ive taken out over there not coming out till ive got back, which is fair enough. i know im going to get charged for being this much in the red plus obviously the £198. now i think its time i got an overdraft incase this happens again but i dont really know how they work. ive just had a look at the application for one on the hsbc online bank and it says that theres a £25 charge for setting one up ? is this right ?

im just looking for a bit of advice about it cos im sick of my life at the minute, im skint as fuck, got flights to trance energy to pay for plus a laptop for my lasses christmas box to pay for...

    thanks

HSBC charge £25 for setting one up, I think they charge it every year it's renewed as well. They say it's cos they don't want people relying on and living in their overdraft as it's a short term thing.

Not aware of any other banks charging for it though

they only charge you once they work out you're in a full time job.

I lived my student years in my overdraft, as soon as I started earning more than £7k a year I got a phonecall from them asking if I was in full time employment. I stupidly answered yes

Since then, whenever I've gone over my overdraft limit I've been charged.

    Re: overdraft advice

go into a branch & see if you have anything pre-approved if you don't then don't let them do an application..chances are you won't get one & your credit score will b affected

I got a charge for going over my overdraft last month total cunts they are.

My over draft is £100, and i went 29p over it and got charged £35

All because i bought a tune of itunes for 79p and because it was via pay pal it didn't come out straight away. All my direct debits came out (Which granted i ahd forgot they were due out) and it took me 29p over my over draft and the cunts charged me :(

I could have went and payed a £1 in to not get charge but no...i didn't know as i never checked my balance for a few days got paid 3 days later then about a week later had a letter saying about the charge.

It's a total joke. I know it was my fault as i should ahve remembered i had the DD's coming out for for 29p over your limit the charge is the same as £200 over your limit. Should have jsut rinsed itunes really instead of just getting one tune

HSBC are the worst bank going, was over the moon when i left them.

First Direct , even though they are owned by HSBC, are a billion times better. If you cant get accepted for them then RBOS are excellent aswell.

They know I am because I told them all my work details last time I got my overdraft extended.

I was never at Uni either so I've been a non-student since I turned 18.

    Oh well...

id highly reccomend not getting one if you can help it.
i got one when i started uni which ive lived in for over 4 years now without my account seeing the plus.

trying to get rid of it now and managed to get it down to about 600 which is a massive improvement but its been such a fucking ball ache to pay off.

should have the bastard off by x-mas if im sensible and that will be the last for me like, can imagine it will be so much easier to manage your funds when there isnt a massive negative sign next to your balance.
