    Outlook email help!

I keep getting this message, what does it mean:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was '!"£$@hotmail.com'. Subject 'Re: test', Account: 'pop.virgin.net', Server: 'smtp.virgin.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 relaying mail to hotmail.com is not allowed', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

have u tried emailling the hotmail account directly? it looks like you've replied to a message received from that account. open a new email and stick the address in that way. See if that one goes thru.

is '!"£$@hotmail.com' the actual address? i don't want to know it, i was just wondering cause i'm pretty sure you can't have those characters as part of email addresses.

What version Outlook is it? I've got OfficeXP at home and i know Outlook is full of 'security' tricks to help stop viruses spreading. it's weird how it mentions '550 relaying mail to hotmail.com is not allowed', almost like it's an inbuilt error message.

I have tried sending the email as a new email and I get the same error message.

I changed the hotmail address to "!"£$@" so I wasn't posting the actual address on the web, this is not the address I am trying to send to!

I am using (well trying 2 at least) version 5.50 with windows 2000 pro.

    Help? :dunce:

i thought that was the case with the email address - i'll have a quick look on the Technet.

Looks like it might be the Virgin mail server knocking it back for some reason - it might just be an Outlook setting, but i've never heard of it b4. i'll have a shufty around now, see if owt crops up.

ermm... dunno. could be the time on our PC's being slightly out. unless the board gets the time from the server.

Right : Can't find anything on the error message - the only bit i found was on another board somewhere, someone else complaining about the same thing, the administrator there had said, and i quote :

...........and it appears the problem may actually rest with a few specific dial-up services who may have changed some mail exchange parameters recently.

so - it might be worth sending an email to your ISP, see if they've changed owt recently - or check your Outlook settings with what they recommend it should be.

not much help i'm afraid :dunce:

oh, hang on - found something else - saying it might be a virus trying to attach itself to your Out going emails and the Hotmail server is stopping it thinking it's trying to spam email addresses. Have u got a virus scanner? might be worth getting a recent update for it. OR there's a free online one if u wanna try it :

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Or i've got Norton AV 2003 if u want a copy posted out mate.
