Orange Evolution 2006 Orange Evolution Music Festival 2006 last updated : Wed 22nd Feb 06 The biggest music festival in the North East of England is back this year, with over 30 indoor gigs taking place over the festival period. With over 30 indoor gigs in six venues, the festival takes place over 10 days culminating in a huge outdoor free music event on Bank Holiday Monday (29 May), when Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides will be transformed to accommodate three stages with over 20 bands performing to an audience expected to exceed 35,000 people. Already confirmed for this year for the main Imagination Stage at this year’s Bank Holiday Monday (29 May) event are Hard-Fi. Jim Mawdsley, Festival Director, said: “To secure one of Britain’s hottest new bands is a real coup for this year’s festival. We first spotted their potential when we signed them to play last year and they’ve had phenomenal success since then. One of Orange Evolution’s aims is to profile new, up-and-coming acts who have potential to be the stars of the future and Hard Fi are a great example of this. “A free event for the people of the North East, we’re determined to grow Orange Evolution year on year to deliver an incredible line-up of acts, of which Hard Fi are just a taster for 2006 – I’m confident music fans won’t be disappointed. “NewcastleGateshead is now one of the most vibrant locations in the UK for music. With the best selection of venues in the country – including The Sage Gateshead, The Cluny, the Universities of Newcastle and Northumbria and the Carling Academy Newcastle - and a whole array of successful artists from the local area – including the Futureheads, Maximo Park, Field Music and Kubichek! – the North East has become a fantastic breeding ground for talent over recent years so it’s only right that a major music festival is staged here.”
