Onboard Sound Card Problem Got onboard sound card. Its a C-Media 9738 AC97 one (or something like that). Downloaded the most up to dat driver from the web but having problems: The 'line out' on the sound card doesnt appear to be working. There is a very faint signal but no where near what it should be. However, when you plus the speakers into the 'line in' on the card you get sound. Its as loud as it should be from the 'line out' but the quality is a little lacking. Also tried recording with the 'line in' and the 'line out' just incase but it doesnt allow you to adjust the levels and its all distorted. All ideas appreciated... Cheers!
Also, you haven't got it set to 5.1 or summinck? Check Control Panel-->Sounds and Audio devices, click advanced under speaker settings Also check the c-media icon in the system tray.
r you sure it's not a mic in because then the signal will distort because line level is a lot louder than mic level. Also whats the thing your trying to connect to the computer, is it a line signal or is it phono, because again line is a lot louder than phono.
Sleepy - No, the sound isn't muted. Dodgy - The driver config has got 'Virtual 5.1' but that is turned off. Xanda - When trying to record I'm plugging in a mini disc and it's defo the 'line in'. Its just weird that the sound is coming out of the 'line in'.
Have you tried rolling back the driver? Get an older driver from c-media's website, or use the driver on the cd that came with your motherboard - see if that solves it.
xanda - its not a cable issue dodgy - unfortunately i dont have the original driver and the c-media website only has the current version. i think this could work if i could get the old driver.
Here's an oldish one: http://drivers.soft32.com/driver/download-CMedia_9738_9739-24619.html Hope it works, if not try your mobo manufacturers website to see if you can get all the original on-board drivers from there.
HELP! IM GOING CRAZY! Right... Its still not working. Been onto the ECS, my mother board maker's, website and downloaded the SiS 7012 audio driver thing that it says should work for the audio chip on my board. Im still having the same problem where I get a very very weak signal from the 'out' but get full sound from the 'in'. Any more ideas. Try all the things in this thread - http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/715/ Note the bit about not using SiS drivers - try uninstalling the driver from Device Manager. check the chip to see if it's Realtek or C-Media, that may narrow it down, and then install different drivers - but don't use Windows Update for them. Looks like a common problem with no easy fix.
its a c-media for defo. what about a bios upgrade. note here ther is a one for support of the c-media chip --- > http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/k7s5a.html will check out that link tho.
I would try everything you can, I'm amazed it's a problem that seems pretty common with no straight solution... Hope that works for ya though
