Measuring just 112(W) x 62(H) x 35(D) mm and weighing only 185 g, it slips comfortably into just about any pocket. The opto-digital specialist Olympus has made sure this digital camera offers the level of photo performance and enjoyment found in analogue compact models at a price the first-time user can afford. Great picture quality The bright (F2.4-4.3) lens provides the photographer with more versatility when shooting in low-light conditions, such as at dusk. By using the 3x optical zoom together with the 2x digital zoom, the user can move in 6x closer for more detail or pull out for the big picture. Precision metering systems ensure effortless operation. While the Through-The-Lens (TTL) autofocus delivers superb sharpness, the camera's ESP light metering system takes readings from numerous points in the frame to find the optimal exposure settings. In tricky lighting conditions, the photographer may also use the exposure compensation. Life-like colours are assured by automatic white balance. Four pre-set white balance modes (sunlight, overcast days, tungsten and florescent light) are also available. To improve the picture's gradation, colour and contrast, this model also utilises the innovative Olympus TruePic algorithm. Easy to use Olympus has paid special attention to making this camera very user-friendly. Automatic settings offer trouble-free, single button operation. The first-time user will also find it easy to try out the manually-adjustable features thanks to the well-laid-out menu, displayed in the 3.8 cm colour TFT LCD monitor on the rear of the camera. The arrow-key makes scrolling through the options fast and comfortable. "Shooting digital" lets the photographer check - and enjoy - the results immediately on the LCD monitor. If the photo is not as intended or does not show the desired effect, it can be deleted and a new shot taken. Flexible image storage With the C-1 ZOOM, the purchase of film and roll changes become a thing of the past. This Olympus camera saves the pictures to small, lightweight SmartMedia cards. These removable media represent an incredibly effective, economical and environmentally-friendly storage solution that can be used again and again. For example, equipped with a single 8 MB card, the C-1 ZOOM saves over 82 images in the SQ format (for screen presentations) before the pictures have to be downloaded. Working with the new optional 128 MB card and shooting high-resolution SHQ images, the photographer is able to save the equivalent of almost four rolls of 36 exposure film. By downloading or deleting pictures from the card, room is created for new image files. This digital compact zoom features USB Storage Class support* for quick and effortless data transfer to the computer. Once connected to the PC with the supplied USB cable, the C-1 ZOOM appears as a regular internal drive, like a CD-ROM or floppy disk drive, and the files may be accessed immediately. * Computer should support USB Storage Class. Equipped with a highly energy-efficient lithium battery LB-01E (CR-V3), this 1.3 megapixel model ensures long performance times before a battery change is required. It also accepts most regular or rechargeable Ni-MH AA batteries. Digital photo prints When printed with a dye-sublimation printer or by a professional printing service, the postcard-sized prints from the CAMEDIA C-1 ZOOM can match analogue pictures for sharpness, colour and smooth contours. Photo-quality results are assured through the camera's special combination of precision optics, accurate metering systems, a 1.3 megapixel CCD and the exclusive Olympus TruePic image optimisation process. Printing the images from the C-1 ZOOM is very easy. Image data may be processed at a photo lab or using a home printer. Olympus offers a choice of dye-sublimation photo printers, such as the P-200. Printing is also possible with a quality ink-jet printer, computer and special photo paper, e.g. the InkJet Photo Media from Olympus. Endless possibilities If the C-1 ZOOM user has a computer, more creative options are available. The user can enhance the shots or create new effects using the Olympus CAMEDIA software supplied with the camera. This program also aids the fast, trouble-free archiving of the photos. Special moments may be enjoyed by family and friends anywhere in the world by just attaching a digital image to an email or placing snaps on a home page. Pictures may also be presented to larger groups by connecting the camera to a TV screen or monitor with the supplied cable. The best results for everyone Olympus has pooled its opto-digital experience to make the C-1 ZOOM [c-you] a camera that incorporates top performance and ease-of-use at an attractive price.
