OK, so I have a laptop, a pc and a wireless router The router works fine, but my pc is connected to it with a cable, and the laptop is wireless. How do I share files such as video and documents from my pc with the laptop? Oh, the pc has vista and the laptop is XP Thanks
aha, i woudent mind finding this out too, i have a machine with a scanner elsewhere in the house and i wouldent mind some kind of filesharing connection over the wireless. havent got a clue how to like
i think you just need to go onto your control panel (on classic mode) network setup wizard, follow the wizard step by step, make sure file and printer sharing is chosen, and then run the wizard on the other machine....creates a network so you can see the other device through the internet i pressume? having said that, that could be bollocks but it's worth a shot
Well I've done all the obvious stuff so far, and all lights are green so to speak (according to the settings on the computers) but it's not working properly. On the Vista PC: I can goto 'Network' and see the laptop there, and access 'SharedDocs', 'Printers' and 'Jamies Music' (which is a folder I chose to share via the laptop itself). So this seems to be a working method here, which is good. So access to the laptop from the PC is fine. On the laptop however, I goto 'My Network Places' > 'View Workgroup Computers' > 'Colin-PC' (this is my pc) and then I can see things such as 'Printers' and a 'Public' folder by default and I've tried adding some music to the public folder from the PC and I can access this fine. So, access to the Public folder on the PC from the laptop works fine. The problem i have though, is that I can't add any other folders on the PC to be accessible from the laptop. I've tried adding my 'Downloads' folder and although it appears on the laptop, I get a permission denied message if I try to access it. Any ideas anyone? Firewalls are turned off at this point.
