    Number Of Nights In Newcastle

what does everyone think about the number of nights/promotions in newcastle at present, are there too many, too few or is it just about right?

personally altho theres a load to choose from at present I think theres slightly too many , whats everyones thoughts?

for me too much choice is no choice

    :)

think there's possibly too many deep/tech house/minimal nights for there to be good turn outs at them all, although most are once a month so it spreads them out a bit if they were weekly there'd be far too many

I think most other genres are either just right or slightly under represented for the number of people actually into them (but i'm guessing as I don't really follow how many hard house/trance/breaks/drum and bass nights are going on or how many people are into them)

hopefully there won't be too many sunday night things this summer as it's not a busy night and its crap when there's about three or four things going on with low numbers at all of them.

but you can't knock people for wanting to put things on, it's better too have too many nights than none at all innit?

is minimal just for setting the mood then?

can you actually break into a sweat dancing to minimal?

do you also think I could get away with rebranding detox as

    d:ETOX ~ #

I think that would make it cooler?

i've never said there was not enough choice

i have complained about big money backed ventures squeezing the little guys tho

what i am on about here is like when there's multiple nights springing up all over all doing shades of grey of the same kind of music

would rather see 3-4 good quality ventures than loads of sub standard things

It's natural selection fella - if there's a market for these nights they'll stay in business.

If there isn't, they won't. Have some faith in the system for once ;)

    i knaa just messin.

wouldnt say there were too many but would agree with stu, the more of the same types will have an effect on numbers at each. maybe a case of too many of a "type" of dj's/promoters in ratio to clientele or city club habits.

    horizontal sweating

I concur with the overall feeling of Minimal overload in the town, tbf i have only been to one and it was great. but i'd rather spend my dolla at a night which better suits my tastes. as opposed to pretending to know the music and look cool as fuck at habit, for example. not my kinda scene is that, too much ket floating about IMO.

melt rebrand detox "D_e:tox", i'm sure the startling and querky use of punctuation will attract the regulars from habit, error_ and the rest of the 130 and under crowd.

    WORD!

There is defo too many 'promoters' trying to do the same 'in' thing...lightly watering down other decent nights.

I wonder what the in thing for 2009 will be...... deep gabba anyone?

Melt.... i'd go for.... dE_tox you'll get another 100 thru the door using that

I have never witnessed any ket messes in Habit, "for example".

I think having loads of nights to choose from can be quality, however I'm finding that too many of the nights I want to go to clash with each other.

The city doesn't have enough of the right type of crowd to allow all of these new nights to succeed, or in some cases even establish themselves. Which is a shame because thanks to these nights we've seen a rise in quality bookings

I'd like to say we'd see all of these nights do well because it can only be a good thing for the Newcastle scene. It's just a shame we live in a "stag & hen" night city though.....

the thing is the minimal/deep/tech house sounds all blur together, one mans deep/tech house is another mans minimal etc and alot of those djs play a variety of stuff from tech house to minimal and deeper stuff too, so minimal and tech house nights tend to appeal to the same demographic

one thing that struck me lately was that Burnski seems to be playing Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesbrough in the space of a month which seems a bit mad

on one hand it's brilliant to have so much good house/minimal stuff going on in newcastle, on the other it makes it very hard for all the nights to get busy

melt you can deffo dance to minimal, some of the shape throwing I've witnessed at simpler on a sunday will testify to that:wink:

i'd highly recomend people to get out and check some of these nights, over the last 6 months the lads at nights like error, simpler and habit have really turned me round when it comes to tech house and minimal stuff, really does the business in a club

that's a real shame if you think that cos it definately aint the vibe i've witnessed there over the last 3 years, there's a hard core of about 50-100 people who are there every month who are the least pretentious/most down to earth decent people i've seen in any club

    ooo err missus.

yeh, i had a great night - and gernerally speaking everyone had good crack.

there was more than 100 people there, and there was a few pre-tentious knobs floating about as well, which tbf i hadnt really experianced at a clubnight that wasnt at sea/bamboo etc. might of just been passing trade however. one of em (basically a copy of russel brand) got clipped in the bog for talking shit about his GPA, or somthing stupidly random involving profit margins - in an overly exagerrated "posh-northerner" accent.

good point on nights like this - lack of charvers.

bad point - feeling daft trying to dance to it :dunce:

and i saw a seat full of ket messes as well, might have just been a one off tho - and the doormen kicked them out when one of em apparently holed.

sorry if i come across a bit strong, but howay, i like trance ffs :monkey:

out of interest which one did you go to mistak?

personally wouldn't say our crowd was pretentious at all.

back to the original point though, i think there probably is too many similar genre nights at the moment...
