    Nucastle.co.uk podcast party?

So ... 40 podcasts in or thereabouts, i would say this board SURELY has one of the biggest back catalogue of mixes of any board in the UK for local clubbing wouldnt you say?

I was talking about this with Mick last week, and thought wouldnt it be a good idea if the promoters on this board would think about joining forces and dedicating a portion of their nights or backrooms over to promoting the talent of the podcast roster?

Think about it - in a time when peoples pockets are being stretched and numbers are down .... Wouldnt it be a good idea to cross promote each others nights and get some fresh talent on behind the decks?

If everyones flyers had the nucastle podcast being pimped at some point, it would be the perfect way of reaching out to the people that DONT know everything thats going on in town, or the various nights?

If that was consistantly advertised on flyers around the town, i bet you that numbers would go up as word got around.

After all ... who WOULDNT want to get free music on their MP3 players. Nobody has anything to lose eh.

I had thought about doing a one-off podcasters night where people vote on here for the best podcasts they've heard, then they get to play that night. I discounted it because it did sound a bit lame.

This however, sounds far better. It would also encourage interest in the podcast (both listeners and people wanting to do an episode) and hopefully increase interest in the board too.

A back room every so often at a local night might not be such a bad idea and I'm sure we could donate some free advertising on here in return for the favour.

    What do people think?

Plenty of views ... but nothing from the Promoters. Maybe they aint seen this? ... Or maybe they are ignoring it ;)

I dont think anything billed as a stand alone thing would ever be anything more than 10 people dancing to their mates playing in the back room of a bar ... why bother with that eh?

It just goes to show, maybe this is the difference between DJ's and nights who go from total obscurity to massive fame ..... Marketing! I was just listening to an Electronic Groove podcast before, and was looking at the Resident Advisor one before also. Its funny to think that even DJ's who you have NEVER heard of, or ones you wouldnt pay good money to listen them play a set that sounds like it was designed for that person and his four mates to stroke their chins to, have what look like professional photos and promo packs done ........... I wonder if people these days need that in place to respond positively to anything new these days? I know I do.

Then again. What the fuck do i know :) Pure speculation.

it's a canny idea in theory, and would be great for some of the people who have done podcasts and have never played out/don't play out much, but would it really work? the whole point in a back room, at least in most cases of nights in newcastle, is to provide alternative music to the main room, and the majority of podcasts on here are straight-up house or trance (off the top of my head i can think of two or three that aren't).

it might work at trance nights for the trance djs, don't places like digital society in leeds do an 'invitation only' room or whatever for less exposed djs? i couldn't see it working on a large extent in a house night though, save for some of the people that have submitted decent podcasts getting a few gigs here and there.

Thing is though .... it doesnt actually have to 'work' in any way shape or form.

Its just a way of taking people who understandably want to run their own nights and have the pride and satisfaction of that BUT giving them a means to cross promote each others nights.

A back room doesnt even HAVE to be fully dedicated to a podcast 'brand' ... it doesnt even need to be the back room ... it could even be the warm up for a front room. For however long.

I dunno. I'll say again i know fuck all about club promotion so i'm only guessing ... but it just seems sometimes like theres say 100 people 'on here' (or people everyone knows) but they dont necessarily make up the 200-400-500 other people who turn up to other nights ....... people who could potentially have not only a means of keeping track on whatever the smaller nights are doing, but a means of promoting this board and north east clubbing etc etc etc.

Together people stand, divided they fall eh.

he's right though. A back room is best used when it brings contrast to the night - it means people can wander between the two and they get a bit of variety. It sets the tone nicely if used correctly.

The diverse styles on the podcast make this a breeze.

There would be no 'cross over' at all.

If Promoters were worried about keeping their bessies on in the back room to please the cliques, sub cliques and breakaway satellite cliques and sub alliance satellite cliques and blokes-who-you-loaned-the-mixer and girlfriend-whos-brothers-sister-helped-do-the-flyers types out, you could still put them on as normal and just bill them as NUCASTLE.CO.UK PODCAST MEMBERS.

    Everyone is STILL a winner.
