    Not reading CDs

When I put a cd into my PC, it doesn't do anything at all. The small cd symbol comes on, then it disappears- its not reading it.

I've been trying to rip some cds to my PC, and nothing is happening.

Any ideas what is the problem?

a similar thing happen to my laptop the other week.

it wouldn't read dvds and then i realised the drive was sticking out a little bit so just pushed it back in and it slotted back into position.

it probably happened due to transporting it so not sure if this will be the same problem you're having if it's a desktop

I'm a PC retard though, I don't know what wire to look for.

    Will it be obvious?

honestly... this forum went down hill since i departed.....

Right, is it an old CD drive? have u tried different disks? you COULD re-seat the connections but i don't think it's that. 1) if the power one was loose - it wouldn't work 2) if the IDE cable was loose - it wouldn't appear in 'My Computer'

sounds like the lense is knackered. 2 choices 1) get a cd cleaner 2) get a new drive.
