i'm pretty gutted like... but have u seen some of the venues competing to hold it? it's all about the dollar bill nowadays man... they've always been banging on about how shite facilities are at silverstone, especially after the other years bollocks up with parking (yes, i know it's sorted now)

Fucking hell. I thought it was all sorted out. That Silverstone was getting loads of funding to sort the problems out like the parking situation, etc?

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone reportedly wanted £8.9m from race organisers the British Racing Drivers' Club to host the race.

I feel VERY strongly about this. Silverstone has made loads of improvements in recent years and is the home of British motorsport. Many F1 teams are UK-based and the event attracts huge crowds. Ecclestone is a short, fat codger with a brain inversely proportioned to the size of his wallet. Jaguar pulled out of F1 last week because of rising costs, and yet he still goes round demanding stupid amounts of money from organisers. This is sport, and a wealthy sport. If he carries on, he will kill it. There are already rumours of a rival winter F1-type series. If Bernie is not involved, I'll be following that instead. This is a criminal decision.

    SORRY!

It's a fucking disgrace of an area to be fair and NO major sporting event deserves to be held there.

Seeing thousands of cyber kids staggering around that hard shoulders is a sight I'll not forget.

its a disgrace but do they really deserve to host a grand pri? :(

exactly. when there's bigger, better venues with massive sponsorship money floating around - why keep going back to tatty old silverstone? i don't agree with it - but have u been recently? When u see the saudis track or the malaysian - it makes u realise the widening gap. i know it's got heritage and all that - but the world doesn't work on british nostalgia - it's all about the money.

we've had to too cushy for too long, EXPECTING that it'll be hosted here....

from watching it on t.v. over the last few years it's looking canny run down for supposedly holding a major sporting event...quite sad really! :)

& as you say there are bigger & better venues out there now...well done to china for getting themselves up there hosting a grand pri! Shanghai wa sbetter views than silverstone as well!

Its a bit shit really as the real reason is Bernie E wanting as much money as he can. Fair enough hes trying to make it more commercial and therefore generate more money but flash new tracks wont help it as much as making it competitive again. Alot of effort has been put into upgrading Silverstone over the past few years but he says its not good enough. Plus if you look at the GP that got the most focus from BE for Silverstone being a bad circuit, 2002 iirc, it was his own fault for moving it forward so it got crap weather.

And its "replacement" for next year should be interesting - Turkey

exactly, since senna prost mansell etc retired and the german took over without challenge the sport has been in steady decline. i was obsessed as a kid, watched it religiously. now i havn't been to silverstone for a few years and doubt it will really bother me to be honest.
