    Newcastle V Sporting

Lets hope the lads come out FIGHTING tonight in football sense.

Sporting are a good team & have one Europe's most inform strikers in Liedson so O'B will have to be at his best, well I guess that us beat then

were the fans giving him shit at the weekend? read something about it the other day.

There our bogey team at the moment, to have any chance i think we have to keep a clean sheet, which is unlikely, but i see away goals being a big decider in this

Seems there lads are bit 'lively' as well

Sporting Lisbon boss Jose Peseiro is convinced that under-fire duo Sa Pinto and Rui Jorge will put their problems behind them when they meet crisis-club Newcastle on Thursday night.

Striker Sa Pinto and defender Rui Jorge have been hit by 12-day domestic suspensions following allegations the former punched Boavista director Joao Freitas in the tunnel at the Bessa Stadium at half-time in his side's 4-0 win at the weekend.

The incident is being blamed for sparking a free-for-all as the two teams left the pitch, which the Portuguese Football Federation is currently investigating.

However, Peseiro is confident his team will not be distracted at St James' Park in the first leg of their Uefa Cup quarter-final.

The two Sporting men, as well as Boavista keeper William, have been suspended with the possibility of a two-year ban if they are convicted of violent conduct and given the maximum punishment.

well, given the circumstances it was as good as could be expected, we've had a rough couple of weeks and our main objective was to give something to take into the next leg, we managed that, and hopefully can regain our composure off the back of it.

Sporting were very neat and tidy up untill a point but had nobody on the park who could pick a final telling ball, i expect Newcastle to score over there and go through quiet easily. Another poor crowd in my opinion for what was a quater final of a major European trophy.

Spot on & if Douala is not fit for the 2nd game even better & we already know they cant play Viana, so there attacking options could be limted. Keeping a clean sheet was very important & we did this with a makeshift back 4, I thought Taylor played well & showed leadership qualties must be next inline to captain the Toon.

Taylor looks a good prospect but the other three would struggle to get into Sunderlands back four, Andy O'Brien looks to be struggling with his confidence big style.

You don't think Steven Carr would? Your having a laff, O'B is better than Breen & that is why he plays for Ireland in all the games that matter & McCartney is Hughes understudy @ international level. As for Caldwell he is decent enough in that league, but think he was in spin last time as players were running past him with ease.

McCartney plays left back for Ireland Hughes is a centre half, there is no way in the world i would swap McCartney as our left back for hughes (he is not even a recognised left back for a start), McCartney is a fantastic talent and a player who will have no problems adapting to premiership football, personally i would take Breen over OB any day of the week and all the Geordies at work reckon Carr has been a major disapointment

i dont think anyone was expecting a rowt, sporting are not a bad team at all

1-0 and no away goals is hardly a poor result.

we will win on away goals over there
