Newcastle v Arsenal Eventually we've got more or less a full team back, although that still doesn't inspire much confidence as we can create chances all day long just theres no-one to put them away. Keep fabregas off the ball and we could sneak it by the odd goal, give him too much space and he'll take the piss. Owen and martins are both due a goal so my moneys going on them at the weekend.
It'll be good to see what a "full" team can do. Hopefully Beye will get a look in, right back has been a massive weakness in our weak defence since he got injured Before Arsenal played Blackburn I would have fancied us to go at them, but they were a different class at the weekend. Hope they dont get into their stride or it could be worse than Liverpool
we're going to get beat. maybe not heavily, but we will get beat, and saying as Boro play Stoke one of the two at least will be picking up points so it could be a very grim weekend for us.... AGAIN
We play ok against the bigger teams and lose, play shit against the lower teams and lose lol, i can seriously see is going down.
Had Arsenal all over in the first half, simply cannot afford to miss fucking penalties & oppourtunities like we did, fel to pieces as soon as Arsenal scored (bar the instant comeback). Left the match early for the first time ever... shambles. We deserve & probably wil go down.
i think we are going down now, and i am not just saying it i have looked at our fixtures and the teams around us and i honestly think we will finish in 18th place above WBA and Boro. of the games Nymark listed, i thin we will take 2-4 points from, i think Stoke will beat us at the Britannia because their form there is quite good, we will beat Fulham and Boro at home but 8-10 points will give us 38/40 = not enough
When I was watching the match yesterday I thought if we go down how many of the players on the pitch will actually give a shit & who will be left in the squad when we play our first championship game They can talk as much as they want in the papers, Bassong, Martins & even Steven Taylor - end of the day they'll move on & not give a shit
all these players will leave when we go down: owen martins harper bassong nolan gutierrez smith coloccini taylor and these will have to go because of wage bills cacapa viduka enrique duff
Out of the team yesterday I could only think of Steve Harper, Nicky Butt & Ryan Taylor staying Harper & Butt because they're not getting any younger & have just signed new contracts. Ryan Taylor because he has went from a decent player to utter shite since he put a black & white shirt on I was thinking Habib Beye might stay - biggest cheer yesterday I've heard for a player in a long time when he came on - but he could get into most Premier League teams
yeah am not sure about what Beye will do, he wont find a club whose fans will love him as much as we do - but at the same time he still has a couple of years of premierhship standard football left in him, and being an Allardyce signing he will be on big bucks as well
If we go down we'll end up like another Leeds, we'll never get back up again due to the players we'd loose. Football was brilliant 1st half, but we folded like a pack of cards 2nd half (in true Newcastle tradition). Missing a penalty against a team like Arsenal to take the lead (STILL baffled why Martins took it on his weaker foot?), then to come back after being 1-0 down, to loose 3-1 in the way we did is exactly the reason why we are looking the likely candidates to drop this season.
It's the total lack of fight that gets me, i defos agree with Carson that if we do go down, we deserve it. All the other teams around us seem to be at least battling their arses off to stay up, with Newcastle i dont see it. Theirs 8 games left, anyone can beat anyone (proved yesterday), and were 3 behind Pompey Its still very much in the balance, yet Newcastle are playing as if their already down. And like him or not, leaving Owen out yesterday is incredible.
I disagree. I think if the town go down, that'll be the end of it. If what I've heard about Ashley's finances are true, he has nothing left in the kitty. We'll be going down like Leeds and not coming back.
Going down isn't the end of the world. There's been plenty of clubs come straight back up and Birmingham & Reading look like doing so. You'll only end up like Leeds if you don't go up at the first attempt. For some clubs it could be a blessing in disguise as you can get rid of the dead wood and have a complete fresh approach just as long as you do go back up you can assemble a team rather than a bunch of individuals.
If you's go down expect the crowds to diminish and most of the players will go or you wont be able to afford to pay them. However, you'll get alot of good younger players wanting to join because they're quite a big club compared to other championship teams.
Looking at the League table id say anyone below 11th could still quite easily drop, theres 4 points between whats being regarded as 'safe' & the actual drop zone, theres still nothing in it & too early to say for certain who could go down. http://www.premierleague.com/page/LeagueTables/0,,12306,00.html
I agree on the fact of loosing players but we've been in worse states over the years in lower divisions & always had the support. Thats what I dont think Ashley gets about up here, were not like teams in London etc... where by some fans only go on a saturday to see teams on a winning streak or just get tickets to see the 'next new big signings' it's a way of life for most, the cities built around that.
Wait and see. The only thing that will keep alot of fans are the fact they're tied in to a three year contract for season tickets. I bet you see atleast 15000-20000 off full capacity.
