Newcastle Fans Whats the current feeling regarding Keegan? Still thinking its a good appointment?? Im genuinely wondering - not taking the piss. IMO it was an appointment that was more of a PR exercise for Ashley than a serious footballing appointment, and if anything he has taken you backwards since taking over from FSA, who was unfairly treated to have joined stating he had a '5 year plan' to make Newcastle a serious force, then to be sacked when he was only in mid-table after 6 months. Opinions??
he was never gunna win 6 on the trot and fire us up towards europe (not even the most diluded of an already pretty diluded group of fans could presume that) but no win in 6 is still however concerning. as is the fact that none of his team sheets have differed dramitically to those of allardyce (still playing the zog full back, still playing smith in midfield from time to time, still playing carr full stop lol) he has a had a tough(ish) run of games like arsenal, Man U, villa away - but still bolton and boro at home should spell 6 points to us. i think he will get us a finish between 15th-12th i dont in my heart of hearts see us going down and i think he will do decent business in the summer (along with a big clearout) i dont think he has been good enough so far, but i think he will be given time, if he can see us thruogh this horric excuse of season then i think he will be a good appointment - he has it all to do, but i personally am not calling for his head yet! far from it
What made me think about this was seeing Malcolm Mcdonald on setanta this morning, stating that it isnt Keegans fault and the players are not good enough. This to me is a load of bollocks - on the way to the Sunderland - Wigan game a few weeks ago we stopped en route to take in Villa - Ncl. The teams came up at the start and we all commented on how strong your team was - nearly every player has cost big money to come in and on paper yous should be up there challenging for european places. Obviously im an outsider looking in and only see Newcastle a few times a season, but surely all yous need is someone to get the players working as a team and motivated to play for Newcastle - something that from what ive seen yous are clearly missing, and something that Keegan doesnt seem to be any closer to doing than Fat Sam. Compare that to Sunderland - especially at home, we havent got anywhere near as many big name players as Newcastle, though the team work hard for each other and play as a team under El Keano, which has led to us winning 5 of our last 7 at home and having one of the best home records in the Premiership, though fair enough our away form is another story
Keegan hasnt had time to do anything yet but he needs a good performance on saturday otherwise the criticism is called for
As i was in Goa when the whole Keegan thing happened i wasnt here to see what it was like but from what i was told it was chaos for a few days and such a buzz around the city, as it would be really BUT at the same time when i was away i thought hmmm maybe its just to shut people up and a known crowd pleaser? With regards to whats going on at the moment i think people are expecting miracles and forget that Keegan has yet to make any signings and basically the team what wasnt good enough under Big Sam is now not good enough under KK. There's too many bit part players in the team, to name a few Steven Taylor (how i laugh at how much he wanted wages wise yet gets ran ragged every game?) Nicky Butt (Past it) Alan Smith (Neither here nor there?) Joey Barton (Yet to see justification of this price tag and England cap) Mark Viduka (Sick Note) and i could go on and on. I never thought i would of said it this season but its going to be a proper battle from now till the end, id never expect us to beat teams above us like i would a few years ago so the Man Utd / Arsenal games so be it hidings id expect but our main problem is we cant even beat the fucking shite around us. I am sick of saying "lets get this season over with" as well, not just this seasons but ones before cos it never used to be like this.
I don't Keegan is at all a good manager, I also think that he's probably the best Newcastle would have got. It seems the few points that you got under Big Sam are keeping you out of the relegation zone at the moment.
Any manager who takes over at the toon needs time, Big Sam should never have went, I seem to remember him saying it'd take him 4-5 seasons to make us into something which is fair play & everyone agreed at the time. But after a few shit results the majority got on his back, these being the fickle fans that were over the moon when Keegan took over. Personally, I believe Big Sam should never have went. I didn't expect miracles from whoever took over. Big Sam is by far the better manager, Keegan was good when he had a good squad (Shearer, Ginola, Ferdinand, Beardsley) who on comparison to todays squad are by far the better team.
And the same fans that will do exactly the same to Keegan when he doesnt start picking up points (ive heard a few that already are). Newcastle are a bit of a joke for that IMO, compare that to us and the support that Keane gets, knowing that we are much better off with a manager being given time to build the team and the club rather than looking for instant results and getting on the team/managers back when it doesnt happen.
