    drugs dont make you wobbly??!!

wouldnt a better test be looking at thier jaw, or pupils, asking a few 'simple questions'?

yeah they doin these other tests aswell

TAKING THE TEST - FIVE STAGES

    * A pupil dilation test. Designed to test for presence of drugs.

    * Counting out 30 seconds. Drug users either under-read or over-read time.

    * Walking in a straight line nine paces forward and then back. This classic test checks co-ordination and balance.

    * Raising a foot in the air six to eight inches off the ground. Designed to test balance.

    * Touching finger to nose with eyes closed. This tests
    co-ordination.

There are loads of reasons you could fail these tests and have traces of drugs in your body from a trip to Amsterdam;) and you could be in real bother. This country spends too much time on crap laws.

when your little kid gets mown down by some burberry clad little fuckwit whos had one two many 'cowies' i think you'll find its not such a stupid law...

dont you reckon the government has spent a hell of a lot of time researching and testing this? ive been in a car with a guy who was made to 'walk the line' and 'follow my finger without moving your head' in america and its pretty clear when you see it happen how effective it is...

pretty sure if you slightly fail one of these they arent gonna bang you up and throw away the key to be fair...

Are u stupid for a reason?

Drug driving is just as bad as drink driving.

it would be interesting to see statistics for drink vs. drug related driving incidents.

i think it always comes back to the "traffics cops should be out catching real crims, not nicking innocent people with their speed guns" argument

No, I just think there must be a more effective and definite way of testing for drug driving. Those tests seem very archaic to me, that's all.

'when your little kid gets mown down by some burberry clad little fuckwit whos had one two many 'cowies' i think you'll find its not such a stupid law...'

And do you really think I condone death by drug driving?

Disagree. 'Drugs' is a VERY general term. I would NEVER get in a car with a driver who had drunk a couple of pints, but would feel safe with someone who had smoked a joint.

    Speaking from experience, I disagree.

Plus, its not all about you feeling safe. You have to think about other road users etc.

It doesnt matter how the tests are done, if it works, it works.

Agreed. If I get in a car, I would want to feel safe, and that would include other road users.

Not sure about 'It doesnt matter how the tests are done, if it works, it works.' Do these tests work. Have they tried them on the frail 70 year old granny? I would rather see a chemical-based test that was 100% proof. These tests, if positive, would suggest that someone MAY be using drugs.

if your saying that attempting to prevent people driving whilst under the influence of drugs is a 'crap law' then that only leaves me to the conclusion that you do?

people driving while under the influence of certain drugs is a bad idea because it quite clearly affects perception and reaction time, anyone with half a brain knows this.. if your perception and reaction times are inhibited then you are putting other road users and the general public at risk, therefore, you should not be on the road.

    end of.

Wouldn't a positive test be evidence enough that the person shouldn't be driving? Regardless of whether they actually have been using drugs or not.

I hardly think they're going to lock you up and throw away the key if its positive. The test will just be the first step.

Yes, and that's the whole point. They may not have been using drugs and that is what you could be convicted of - and possibly wrongly. I would like to see a more definite test, like the drink drive breathalyser

i dont think they can really do any other tests coz even tho them ones r dumb and bit silly really it costs far too much to test for drugs.

everyone who is arrested for an acquisitive crime gets a mandatory drug test now, which takes a lot of time and involves a lot of ppl so they cant b taking ppl to stations for proper testing as they dont have the resources.

im just sayin if they gave me that test i wud fail!!!
