New docu soap about Gatecrasher The latest in the BBC's series of successful docusoaps will use the evolving world of an up and coming nightclub in the twenty first century as its base. The new programme which will be entitled "Superclub" will begin filming later in the year and will focus on the day to day running of the influential "Gatecrasher" in Sheffield. Gatecrasher, which was once respected as the largest club in the world has boasted events on five continents, has seen a decline in recent years and has forced to re-brand itself to fit with the evolving trends of the young clubber. The six week documentary will observe the day today running of the brand's flagship club "Gatecrasher One" in Sheffield while also following the spin off trance night "Crasher" which is held in London's popular "Heaven" nightclub. The establishment of "Gatecrasher Two" a second venue which is due to open in Leeds sometime next year will also be featured in the programme. Edward Drood, the head of BBC-Real, the new department of the BBC recently set up to deal with the ever increasing trend of docusoaps on our screens said yesterday; "the BBC are very excited to be linked with the accepted Gatecrasher brand in this way. We hope this documentary will give an interesting incite into the clubbing culture in this country and will also allow us to observe a successful business evolving to keep up with the demands of the twenty-first century." Simon Raine, the club's owner and one of the chief visionaries in the new Gatecrasher branding, spoke yesterday of his excitement about the BBC's new project: "Throughout Gatecrasher's history we have attempted to include its patrons (the people who make it what it is) in the decisions about the club that will affect the clubbers. This new project is a chance for those people to see exactly what goes on behind closed doors and examine some of the different ways in which the club works, both as a business and an entertainment venue. This is one of the most exciting periods in Gatecrasher's history, as form here on in things are only going to get bigger and better." The documentary will be screened on BBC2 early next year.
