New club by Fabric people Top-name nightclub will open at The O2 Jan 24 2008 Kay Harrison A MULTI-million-pound nightclub from the owners of Fabric is set to open at The O2. The 2,500-capacity venue will launch this September, finally giving Docklands a major late-night destination. Fabric MD Cameron Leslie said the venue would have a greater emphasis on performance and live elements compared to its Farringdon superclub sister. He added: "It's a space where we will be able to do club and nightlife events but it has a much broader range of performance possibilities, from live gigs and concerts to theatre and much more." The club will have a big impact on Canary Wharf and West India Quay's nightlife, with the O2 Arena just one stop away on the Jubilee line. Dave Gunn, manager of West India Quay's Bar 38, said: "It's great news for everyone in the area; the bars near Canary Wharf Tube station and along this stretch are going to benefit. "We've needed a club in Docklands for a long time. "We've already seen an increased footfall from The O2 with people drinking here before they go on to a gig, and this will make it even better, bringing in a whole new crowd." The Fabric association will attract big-name DJs and clubbers from across the country to North Greenwich, with Carl Cox rumoured to be lined up for the opening night. Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk and Armin Van Buuren have also been linked to the venture. It is believed a consortium led by Fabric owner Keith Reilly eyed up The O2 after the closure of clubs in King's Cross left a gap in the market. The purpose-built venue will be found near The Bubble, close to where the Tutankhamun exhibition is currently showing. Afree river shuttle service could be laid on to allow clubbers to travel to and from the venue. The former Dome has already played host to one-off club nights, from Hed Kandi and Ministry of Sound. ______________________ probably take most of the turnmills crowd
wow a new super club.... forgive me if i don't get over excited... like brid said.. will be full of city plebs and beer boys, will be extreeeeeemly over priced and remains a pain in the arse to get to and from... even if you happen to live in london!! BOLLOCKS!
who do you think lives and works in docklands/canary wharf? ..... sounds like a step back towards the twattish times of clubs like Home and the like. As much as Fabric is a superclub of sorts, i think anything associated with that POS the O2 aint a step forward. (..... or im getting old).
The Fabric lot have a pretty sound record of doing a good job so its safe to say itll be decent for the kind of market its aiming for. Itll be the only place to hear the big trancebods in London so get used to it
Not fancy a road trip down there at the end of march like Leeroy? http://www.nucastle.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=69667 As for the club - good news imo! Even the popular clubs like The End have a large portion of city gimps that know fuck all about the music they listen to so whats the fuss?
