Networking Help Ok, so the computer that the router is connected to is working ok and it can connect to the internet, but the computers around it (one on a wireless card, and the other on an ethernet cable) can see the 'host' computer on the network and get into the shared drive and print etc....BUT neither can connect to the internet, any ideas PLEASE?? Everything has been working fine for months, but I come in this morning and it has all gone pear shaped!
u using a firewall on the PC, like Norton or owt like that? Anyone fiddled with the settings? No, honestly, anyone fiddled with the settings? Ask them again - truthfully - anyone fiddled with the settings? if it's been working fine - somethings changed. u rebooted everything? sometimes u've got to make sure it's in the right order...
no one fiddling with the setting there is only me and 1 other person in!! rebooted everything, still dead!
hhmm.... Not sure then. it sounds like similar problem to what people were having when they had their firewall settings too high. i'm sure some other wireless techy will pipe up soon with a better solution...
This sometimes happens. It happened to my mate, I solved it by running the internet connection sharing wizard again, so try that on the PC that connects to the internet via the pc with the router. Is your internet cable or ADSL? Do you have a fixed IP address? IF it's fixed you can manually set up the hosts to use the pc with the router as the default gateway, which should solve the problem.
Gave up, have come home...Gonna let me techie sort it out tom, why are they always out when you need them??
we have no idea..& neither does tech help...we're now onto our 4th modem now, it keeps not installing the cd rom's properly but then telling us we're connected to the internet when we're not! we've also tried a device that adds mor epower to your usb hub...still not working... my dad spent 2 + hrs on th efone to a special specialist who still cudn't get it working!
is it adsl? who's it with? once ur connected...goto dos prompt (start>run>cmd enter..) type in ipconfig whats it show?
it's adsl broadband thru bt (bt broadband) it doesn't actually connect properly tho...we can't get any web pages up at all! i'll print this off & try it when i get home..since we can't get on line i'll have to post the result on here tomorrow!
if it says its connected and u just cant get webpages...maybe a problem with the DNS (changes names to ip's...) - its a possibility... but am not convinced its connecting at all...if u do that 'ipconfig' and post the results - can see if it has an ip address assigned (external address) - if it has then it is connecting ok... i cant believe they have let u go this long without tho i wudnt allow it for more than few hrs!!!!!!
Re: Networking Help check the network settings for each of the client machines. make sure that they have the default gateway set to the ip address of the "host" machine... also stick in the ip address of ur "host" machine as their primary dns as well..... to do this go into network connections right click, goto properties of the connection..then properties for TCP/IP protocol...
we're in contact with complaints who will be refunding us the payments from when we started it & now my dad wants compensation! i think he should...if we complain long & g=hard enough...& my god my dad can complain when he wants to!
my dad.. got really anal & wudn't let me touch the pc... claiming erm...erm...tech help tried that just don't touch it! so we still don't have broadband! & we're not any further forward!
Had similar probs with XP at a network round me mates. Probs can arise when XP has been installed over an earlier version of windows, and you end up spending hours altering the nodes etc. For a quick fix: Install CCProxy (search google) on the PC that's connected to the net. Install Sockscap (search google again) on the two other PC's. Set the SOCKS server in the setup as the ip of the PC on the net, port: 1080. Use SOCKS 5, and resolve names remotely. Socksify IE, messenger, DC++, etc by clicking 'add' on the main screen, and browsing to ie.exe, dcplusplus.exe, etc. Doesn't work with everything. Soz if that's all a bit garbled, my lunch-time's running out. More instructions are on the sites that host the above two programs (they're both free too). Is good to use til you sort stuff out.
