    Networking/File Sharing Problem

Right.... Got a PC connected to the net via ADSL using a USB modem. The PC is also connected to a Wireless Router/Hub via an ethernet connection and the internet connection is shared.
On this PC I have 'shared' a few folders with the intention of browsing them on my laptop which connects to the hub wirelessly.

Every time I try to connect to the computer (by going through workgroup computers and selecting it) it says its not accesible and I might not have permission. But it works the other way as the PC can browse the laptops shared folders.

    Whats going on?

SP2 installed? i'd check the permissions on the shared folders, make sure it says EVERYONE - but beware!

have you got a firewall on your pc that might be blocking the folders.

You'll need to enable Guest accounts on both pc and laptop, go to Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management-->System Tools-->Local Users And groups-->Users, right-click on Guest and select Properties, ensure 'account is disabled' is unchecked, click 'member of' tab, select 'add', click 'advanced', click 'find now', select 'Power Users', click ok, click ok, click apply, click ok. Do that on both, it solves probs of pre-SP2 Network glitches.

Make sure guest accounts are enabled as I've put above, most peeps disable the guest accounts which are necessary for networking. Pre-SP2 there was loads of probs with peeps that had upgraded to XP needing to enable power user status to the guest accounts to get anything working.

Also, some firewalls need to be set correctly for the LAN too - so have a fiddle in whichever one you've got.

Yeah, i've fiddled alot already like! Was working fine on SP1, then just cocked up on SP2 and I aint got round to fixing it yet!

I'll check out my laptop settings though see if it helps.

    Cheers :king:
