    Network Problem Pissing Me Off!

    Right please can someone help.

In our house we've got 3 laptops (connected wirelessly to a netgear router)

and one p.c. (connected via ethernet cable to the router.

I've managed to set up a network, using the windows wizard between each of the computers. The problem is in the file sharing. The pc can see and access all of the laptops shared files, the laptops can see all computers in the network but can only access the laptops shared files and not the pc's. I get the error message "you may not have permission to access this network resource".

I know my computers blocking them from accessing it somehow, but ive tried disabling all of my firewalls and that still doesn't work. Funny thing is, the laptops CAN use my printer with no problems.

Any help would be much appreciated:)

Hvae you got folder sharing on? Right click, properties, sharing tab and fiddle around in there for your destination folders

As well as checking the folder sharing, try this: On the PC, go to Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management --> System tools --> Local Users and Groups --> Users. Right-click on Guest on the right, and select Properties --> Member Of tab --> Add.. --> Advanced --> Find Now --> highlight Power Users --> click OK --> Ok --> Apply --> Ok

Yeah i've seen this on a few websites but i've got XP home and -->Local Users and Groups isn't there. I just don't get why it works fine on every pc expect mine. the only difference is mine's connected using ethernet, this shouldn't cause a problem but it seems like it is.

    Andy....yeh ive got that on.:)

Try adding a new user on your DESKTOP with the same username of the laptop.

Also is the desktop on the same workgroup as the laptops?

In XP Pro I resolved this by going to through the following:

Go to Control Panel, then Administrative Tools. Click on Local Security Policy and then Select User Rights Assignment.

Pick the first Right "Access this computer from the network" and make sure "Everybody" is on the list.

As well as that i turned off the shitty XP firewall, made sure "Server" was running in services, and that I had at least one open share.

    Eventually solved my problem,

a value in the Registry needed to be changed from a '1' to a '0'

    works fine now:)

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-->SYSTEM-->CURRENTCONTROLSET-->CONTROL-->LSA

Right click on 'ristrictanonymous', select 'modify' and chage the value to a '0'.

Restart your comp and hopefully it should work:)
