Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management ->System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Users. Right-click Guest and select Properties. Click Member Of tab. Click Add. Click Advanced. Click Find Now. Select Power Users and click OK. Click OK. Click Apply. Click OK. Do this on all pc's in the workgroup. (note - anyone logging on to your pc's on the guest account will have access to a few more features).

Also, check that any firewalls on your pc's have the right settings for the network.

Ah, just re-read that bit. Do you mean no-one can see your shared folders, or that no-one can see ur pc in 'View network computers'?

Users access other pc's on the network via the guest account. I've used that quite a few times recently to sort out other peep's network problems, seems to arise when someone's upgraded to xp.

Aye, it is quite insecure, but nowt 2 worry about on a home network. (unless you're up 2 stuff that u shouldn't be....)

"The Guest account, which is a member of the Guests group by default, is not an authenticated user. When logged on interactively, the Guest account is a member of both the Guests group and the Users group. However, when logged on over the network, the Guest account is not a member of the Users group."

Have used that 3 times now to sort out mates network problems, is the only thing that's worked after trying everything else.

Oh, and M$ sez: "Because of its importance, you must not disable the Guest account. If you disable the Guest account, your network can have problems that include malfunctioned shares."

Oh (for the nth time), doing the above is pointless if no-one can see his pc at all. If his pc can be seen, and the 'Access Denied etc' error comes up, the above should be done. It would be nice to know whether his pc can be seen like...

Another thingy to try: Use regedit to set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa DWORD KEY "restrictanonymous" = 0 and reboot. Note that it lowers somewhat the security level for the anonymous logins (make sure you're running a good firewall). (If that key resets to 1 after reboot you may have a new trojan called W32/Rbot-GM, which helps fuck shit up and has been causing probs recently.)

Dunno if this is obvious but ya also have to go to properties of the folders u wish to share with others and tick the share on network box!
