network/broadband issues

    network/broadband issues

    ive got broiadband in now but im having 2 use heathers pc..

    my windows xp machine.. wont work on the network we have here.. the network card is fine cos im using it now in heathers pc.. and the cable is fine (as above) all the other equipt is fine (router/modem)

    so its my pc... my flatmates an It techy in training and its got him stumped.. any ideas?

    does XP pick the network card up properly? is it installed ok? or is it just not even connecting to the net?

    its picks up and installs the card fine.. ive tried 2 different cards..

    tried the network cards in different PCI slots? try it with the network card being the only device plugged in, i.e. remove any firewire, sound cards, etc. See if u can get it working. Check the BIOS - make sure there's no settings in their that might need changing. Might be one of those weird "you'll never get to the bottom of" probs... see what your ISP have to offer via their support lines... they'll get calls like this all the time...

    yup.. tried diff pci slots.. will try tkaing out all other stuff later on... have no idea how to chec bios :dunce:

    what you'll need to do is pakc all the stuff the way you got it, put it back in the box, take it back to the shop from which you purchased it and tell the nice person at the cuonter that you'd like a refund, due to your being too fucking stupid to own a computer :)

    i dont know shit about networking.. but my flatmate thinks he does :p

    hes been typing the cmd stuff in yesterday the ip addy always came back as 00.000.0000 blah blah.. im gonna have a play with it when i get bk on sat. and wil try those guides..

    i connect to a router.. then to the broadband...

    there are 5 pcs connected to the router all using the same broadband connection...

    sent u a pm mate..

    i'll have a bash at uninstalling/reinstalling the stuff now :)

    when i tried to uninstal tcp/ic the uninstall option was not hightlited.. bastard.
