My new internet misses stuff I've just got my new internet that is 2mb. I'm chuffed with the speed cos downloading stuff is fast as fook but viewing websites and connecting programs to stuff is proving to be a bit of a PITA. Some websites show the 'page not found' page whereas some work fine. This site is usually ok but for the past couple of days it seems the later at night it is, the more errors I get. I get the error page up to 10 times until it finally loads the next page (reply or something) after refreshing. I dunno whats up its as if my connection is running through a siv. A lot of pictures on sites wont load (either a blank space or the red cross). I have AVG, Sygate FW, MS AntiSpyware and Peer Guardian installed after taking note of dodgy's thread. Does this problem seem linked to any of these programs at all? At first I thought it was just because i was using my internet before the date it was due to be working (the woman on the phone said i could try to use it earlier but it probably wouldn't work. I assumed this would be a no connection situation but instead it connected fine.) Now its the 23rd and thats the date written on my letter and although I can get all websites to load that i've tried so far today, I still get problems with the full set of images loading. boo hoo.
Oh and about programs connecting. AVG's update feature tells me it can't connect. I've updated it once but a few other times it's acted as if I'm not online. When a new internet connection is setup (from the ISP) should it all work as soon as the user is able to connect or is it done in steps where more and more normal features such as fully functional browsing are enabled 100% throughout the configuration? I hope this isnt the kind of service i'm going to be using for the next year
it doesnt have an on/off. its a speedtouch 330 that came with my new internet (same as my old one). The computer has been restarted a few times.
Some simple things: You turned off XP Firewall? You tried an on-line av scanner (just in case)? Have you got a torrent client running or anything that is choking your upload bandwidth? (Since you're using torrentreactor I'm guessing so, if so, restrict the upload bandwidth to 80% of your total bandwidth in the client, or use a prog called NetLimiter) It looks like something is causing time-outs, my guess is on the torrent client
Done scans and its all ok. I noticed my phone wasn't too clear when picked up though so I guessed there must be a phone connected to the phone jack in my room that's causing trouble with the frequencies. Taken my sisters out and its just mine nd the cable plugged into the filter now and the phone sounds clear. I dunno if it's helped much though. I still get an error screen when i click the download link on www.mozilla.org - is this just me? I also just remembered i have windows 98 installed onto a different drive too. It's scanning it in virus scans. Could this be a problem? EDIT** It seems to be working better in the sense that all the pictures seem to load on websites. I'm having trouble finding the pages for the firefox download on their site, macromedia.com and certain pages i've found in google. Maybe this is just working better due to the early morning hours creeping in. This is pissing me off It wouldn't have anything to do with certain ranges or IP's or something i'm totally unaware and unfamiliar with would it? I'm gonna be phoning them when I get up.
Can u get to macromedia's website? I can't it just tried to load for a while in both browsers and then fails. same with the moxilla site after clicking the download now link. In firefox it has the 'click here to download plugin' box instead of the banner at the top of this page and that is taking a long time with no sign of doing anything which i'm assuming is to do with macromedia aswell.
Call the ISP and tell them the crack... Also, open syagte and have a look at what is connected, make sure something isn't uploading silly amounts
opened it and its really slow.. computer keeps freezing and the list keeps refreshing although the majority of the time it loads half way down and pauses causing a halt followed by another iffy refresh. hmm?
You definitely shouldn't have something called service.exe connecting to the net, that is summinck nasty... Look here: http://www.viruslist.com/click?_URL...p?url=/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-026.asp http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/ http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.randex.r.html http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.kazping.html & here: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.xtc.worm.html Is your anti-virus definitely updating? And are you using SP2? If not, try sort it
bastard! My virus definitions seem to be updating (when it lets me connect to the update service). I'll see if I can sort it. I dunno how many of those are in the list as I'm plagued by freezing everytime it tries to refresh the list and it renders my mouse useless.
Ok, Dodgy, I've blocked access for service.exe and it's shortened the list in Sygate, but theres still a lot of 'winsis32' running. I've blocked that atm too. I also realised that peerguardian was blocking IP's from macromedia.com and when i disabled it all was well. I think i'm getting somewhere
