Erm all nic card drivers all installed? Sure there designed for xp?

All cables in? (sounds patronising but the amount of times ive done it)

    Internet connection sharing working?

PC's ip set to the internal ip range?

can u manually assign it an IP address, just to see if it works?

I think Juski was on the right lines, the network components sounds fucked. Can u go into the Add/Remove Programs bit, into the Windows Setup and completely remove the network from there?

you say xp installed them automatically? (nic drivers)

cant you not install them manually from the cd? or net? Just xp drivers arent always the best, my modem was picked up by xp and the drivers for it were crap.

and yep justin is right, make sure tcp/ip, netbeui(spellin) and network services is installed from the add/remove bit

my bro has broadband and he set up a router so i could use the net an his comp didn't have to be on, but its always going down, an it does it alot more when i have that shareaza thing on?

you running XP? only reason i ask, my boss at work had BT Broadband installed, it did the same thing, it would just hang the broadband connection when he was on Kazaar or WinMX, rebooting it would sort it temporarily. He didn't have a router like. He tried all sorts of stuff to get it working - eventually i rebuilt his machine as a clean XP box, installed broadband - and it worked a treat! a weird fix, if a bit extreme.

Kid - Just had a though, you might have to put the routers IP address in as a gateway in your TCP/IP properties window, so it knows where to look to get to the ISPs DHCP server.

Hav u tried pinging the other machines on the network? have u tried pinging the router?

For modern networks the best system to have is Windows Server 2003 on the main box and windows 2k on the rest
