my attempt at making a tune! for the last week or so i've been tryin to make a tune, it's my first attempt and i know it's nothin special. it needs a lot more work but i'd appreciate peoples comments on my attempt so far, especially from anyone who produces clicky the big thing for me is the lack of synths/pads but i havn't got any software for doing those yet, i've only used fruity loops. any recommendations for software for making some nice trance synths?? anyway if you've got 10mins, have a listen and let me know what you think please! cheers
I think reason is a good place to start! you can learn everything about synthesis without it gettin complicated. you can create some excellent sounds. i think guyver used reason for years. reason 3 is pretty damn good. you can d/l it if you dont want to pay for it! your breakdown reminds me of pvd your actual synth sound is nice tbh! i think when it moves further into the breakdown the sound gets more delayed (i think thats what youve done) you should bring it in alot sooner, as with the lower down synth. but for your first track, and using fuity loops its not bad! suprised you managed to get this much done in a week. i no my first week i had about 20 different loops cos i was amazed at what you could do. i think if you get a better program you will do much better, and you enjoy it more!
sounds like its got a lot of potential! one thing ive noticed straight away is the lack of fx/reverses/crashes. i think if you spend some time on adding fx it would bring the whole tune together a lot more try adding some mid percussion such as bongos/rim shots to nicely sit under the mid/top percs youve got in place at the min build up is a bit long winded but really liking the breakdown! for synthy sounds try and get hold of some vst plug ins such as v-station/z3ta +/hypersonic! start playing around with some automation on the breakdowns such as filtering things in, or even adding more reverb as the melody builds up etc. youl find itl give a lot more depth to ya sounds really nice effort like for a first go, keep hamemring at it
i've used the chorus effect on the actual tune throughout, it basically creates copies of the same sound but detunes it so they're all slightly different. i think i need to give it a lot more depth even before adding more effects, but i think adding some synths will go a long way to do this. i've had a quick look on the net to try and find a demo of some plug-ins for synths, don't want to buy something and find i don't like it. i'll see what i can find cheers for the feedback

thanks for the comments i've sat down and worked on it a bit more over the last week it's a lot better, there's a bit of depth to it now. added a nice piano piece (well i think it's nice lol), as well filling it out i'd appreciate feedback, whether it's good or bad here's the link: clicky or use the myspace link in my sig cheers
i swear by z3ta, it's great novation v-station is good for basslines albino has some nice moving sounds
well all i've used is fruity loops but when i can afford it i can definately see me gettin a decent software set up
just listening now to your update mate really liking the intro, kicks sounding miles better with the shaker/hat line youve got layered over it. melody sounds sweet progressing inthe way you have it. the build up seems to be a bit long winded, id try adding a bit more compression to the melody that comes in at the first break before the percs drop to give it a bit more clarity. sounds nice when the subby bass comes in at the break with the clap think the percussion works really well cos i used to get bogged down wen i started producing adding shit loads of unnecesary (sp?) perc lines, although id try addding a ride cymbal with the mid and low cut off to fill the top end out a bit and carry the tune along! second break sounding cool, try adding a snare to that breakbeat fill the mid/top out and give it a bit more punch! im not trying to tell you what to do here mind you justa few suggestions you could mebbe try out n c what works excellent improvment from your last version tho mate keep it up
pretty much what he said lol. when it kicks off i would add an open hi hat and mayb a really thin ride would be nice. if you can, open up the cut off on the high perc thats following the bass. it does take a long time to build up but if thats what you were aiming for then thats no problem. i think maybe some reverb on your clap to make it last a bit long will help it flow a bit better, but as michael said thats just what i would do. considering the package your using and its your first try then id say well done. some of the shite i first made was VILE lol. keep practising, and defo try and get yur hands on a better package.
same as lol took me about a year to make something that sounded musical never mind decent! ive been using ableton live for about a year and a half now n would never use anything else. started off using fruity loops, then pro tools and dabbled in logik, pro tools/logik/cubase are mint for recording but not very good for midi use imo. once abletons recording facilities are updated in the next version itl be un-beatable imo! would highly recomed live 6 if you canget your hands on it!
thanks for the feedback lads i'll have a bash at what uv suggested and i'll keep plugin away at it. i think th breakbeat is definately missing something to make it a bit more punchy like u say. more comments, good or bad, wud be appreciated
