    msn virus

anyone else got stung by it?

you get sent a link by someone saying there's a photo of you then if you click your computer fucks up

i think i have sorted it

you get pop-ups and an 888 browser tool bar installed and weird icons appear on your desk top.

i have got rid of them and seem to have deleted a couple of trojans too

however, my avg has expired and when i try to update it as per usual it just wont connect to it. my internet works fine and cant think what else it is. i tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it but no luck

i dont like my computer to be operating without an uptodate avg

    anyone got any advice?

    PS thanks tom!

Sorry Nick... I've emailed you a link that should fix it..

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic22402.html

also, quit internet explorer and start using Firefox, I've never had a problem until now but the ball ache of the last 3 hours has been enough to convince me..

I've deleted Messenger to be safe and wiped my recieved items folder.. the file you need to get rid of is winstall.exe but it's in the registry so you can't just delete it.. that and even if you do delete it, change its name, whatever, it's self perpetuating...

    Re: msn virus

he stung me with it, the cunt!

i only read the "dont click the motherfuckin link" bit afterwards :(

but i think i might have got away with it, because i didnt open the file - it downloaded, then i couldnt find it on my desktop (till 5 mins later, but id realised by then)

but it has made me update all my anti-virus stuff, which id got lazy about and not touched for a year

see Dodgys thread at the top of this forum - if you look, he has been on and updated it as recently as 06/11/2006, he recommends a diff anti-virus program and firewall etc
