    Motherboard/CPU advice

    alright everyone,

I'm looking at getting a new CPU/mobo, as my current one is looking a bit long in the tooth.

I don't have mega bucks to spend, but what are people recommending atm?

I'm a bit out of touch as I haven't bought a CPU since Athlon XPs were out

    Whats ur current setup?

Atm.. there are a few options.

    a. Core 2 Duo/Quad and a p35/p45 mb, this will run with DDR2
    b. Core i7 920 with an x58 board, this will run DDR3 and is very expensive.
    c. AMD Phenom II with a AM3 board, will run DDR2.

IMO.. at present.. if your not gaming.. then a Q6600, a decent P45 MB (Such as the Asus P5Q Pro) and some DDR2 would be a decent outlay.

Plus the Q6600 is a very good OC chip, which means that if your system slows in future.. you always have the option to rattle the tits off it.

    For example:

    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 LGA775 "Kentsfield" 2.66GHz (1066FSB) - OEM £139.99
    Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £101.99
    OCZ Gold Edition 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 Dual Channel £41.99
Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler £33.99

    Sub Total : £276.49
    Shipping : £10.00
    VAT: £42.97

    Total : £329.46
