    BASTARDS
Just had my car in for it's test and because it's been standing for a month whilst I've been away they say there's rust on the discs so I need 4 new discs and pads at £400.
So I drove it round the block a few times with the brakes on and took it back and said here look at this they are all shiney now. He says it's on the inside where I can't see. So I told him that's bollocks and he says there's no need to be abusive and if I want to appeal his decision there's a form in the office. BASTARD.
I need the MOT to tax it so I'm going to have to take it somewhere else and pay another fee.BASTARD.
    never go to kwikfit

actually, the inside of the discs are in contact with the brakes, but the tester is still bullshitting you.

the discs on my ka develop rust in a similar manner if you leave the car standing for more than a few days in the rain. My mums audi does the same.

Prolonged use of the brakes at high speed sorts it out. Take your car out and do a 20 mile run or so, try and find a nice straight long road to bed your brakes in, and do what I do after I've changed my pads/discs - accelerate and gently hold one foot on the brakes, so you're cruising at about 60 with the brakes on. Should sort it out nicely.

Report him for being a pedantic cunt as well. Unless the rust is really bad (which I doubt) it normally wears off after a bit of use and shouldn't pose a problem under braking.

And never use somewhere like kwikfit - they're rip off merchants. They're like the Dixons of the car world. Try and find a local garage and if they're good stick with them.

My local garage are mint and I take my car back there every single time there's an MOT due or parts need changing and I can't do it myself.

kwikfit tried to do exactly the same to me. said i needed all my brakes doing and would cost loads, so rang my mate who works in a garage and he said he do it at half the price. turned out i didnt need all the work kwikfit said i did after all

or you could get them to do the work, stay there and watch them take perfectly good parts off and then take the cunts to court and get loads of money

Small little grubby garages are best, preferably 1 recommended by a mate, they'll always re-MOT for nowt if u get them to do the work

there's a class 1 in walkergate down by the river, 1st garage said i needed a new headlight motor at £130 or something, this garage just reconditioned the 1 i had for nowt then MOT'd it - afterwards he said "oh, go get the wiper blades and number-plate bulbs sorted and i'll be happy" - if you can find a decent garage - never let them go

just out of curiosity forks, what do you drive?

there's no way pads/discs on all fours should come to £400, even including labour.

i was just wondering this... 400 quid for discs and pads? FUCK THAT! are you driving an F1 car around or summik?

if you get a good garage to sort out your m.o.t cherish him for life!

i might have had an old rover 200 that had the same emissions as a 05 corsa one year *whistles*

all that's been said is true..... I only went to Kwikfit cos they could do it whilst i waited and my local garage can't do it till next week and I have to tax the car this week or I'll get a fine for not SORNing it or taxing it. BASTARDS.
the car is a Peugeot 406 estate. super cool or what.
they know you can't put an appeal form in cos you would have to do without your car till it was settled.BASTARDS.

fuck them off mate, go find some where else and pay for another test, brakes for that motor is not 400 quid fitted!

if the tax is out at the end of the month, and the test is still valid now, you might be able to get away with getting the tax off the website

you can get the performance pads + discs off ebay for £200 all in for that car (grooved/vented with carbon fibre pads).

Standard discs for the back are £24
Standard discs + pads for the front are £25

So you can get all the parts (standard ones) for under £100.

Fit em yourself, it's dead easy

it took me 2 hours to do discs and pads on the front of my ka - and that was first time with just a haynes manual :) was dead easy, had no problems whatsoever.

forks - which kwikfit did you go to? I fancy taking mine in for their free brake test and winding them up.
