I discovered that mixing trance is miles easier than mixing prog this weekend.

Also, i took myself out for a drive not once, but twice in the lovely sunshine with the windows open and some tunes on.

Later, i cleaned out the bit where the shower cubicle in our ensuite is sealed to the base, using cotton buds to pull out rotten scum, and random hairs, on order of my lass who would have killed me if i hadnt.

In addition to this, i found out that nearly four weeks of not smoking at work has made me realise i dont actually like tabs at all (APART FROM WHEN IM OUT CLUBBING).

Also, i found out that the combination of a chinese on friday, and then an indian on saturday is not good for your relationship.

Later on, i watched Sliding Doors on Film Four, and thought about the things i'd love to do with Gwynneth Paltrow.

Lastly, i worked out that you CAN get drunk on a sunday and not suffer, but you have to make sure that you start early on, then make sure your finished by about 8pm that night and spend the rest of it drinking water.

The short mixing to keep the pace up seems to be alot simpler i think, than relying on loads of layered stuff and trying to make things seem like a single track by fiddling with the EQ's all the time.

Probably just the tunes i was using those - Sean tyas type stuff which is alot more bassline driven and the intro's and outro's feel quite simple to mix together.

..... Or i was just drunk and THOUGHT it was easy ;)

i find proggier stuff easier to mix, lots of different noises, bass lines to bring in and out, mess around with, nice longer less obvious mixes.

with 'modern' style discover/anjuna style trance, they seem nowadays to prefer the short, choppier mix - no messing, cut it in, keeping the energy up but as there's not much to them you've got to be totally precise in your phasing and bass

i like both styles to be honest - both suit the mood of the music

Yeah your dead on with the anjuna/discover stuff which is what i listen to the most ... The transitions are sometimes so fast they are almost on the beat at times, especially on 'Trance Around the World' which is either incredibly skillfully done, or all done on Ableton ;)

abelton i'm almost sure - i was listening to 1 the other week, a slower proggier tune suddenly pitched up a few BPM's on the beat the new tune came in to match the faster tune - unless he changed both pitch controllers on both CDJ's at the same time the exact same amount
