    Monitor Speakers

I have just setup two monitor speakers in mine, there basically running thru my amp on the same volume as the master.

The both have Pos/Neg - Pos Neg coming from them and then obviously the same going into the Amp.

How do i connect them so that i can control the volume of them on the booth monitor knob on the mixer (djm500) cos when i tried on just one speaker pos/neg into the mixer pos/neg there was no soung whatsoever basically ?!?!

Sorry if its a bit of a shite description, the ports on the back of the speakers are for loose wires what connect in..

    Cheers

you need 2 separate amps mate, you cant just plug a speaker into the mixer unless they are powered internally which it sounds like they arent. (if i read what you are saying correctly).

    Cheers mate ;)

Aye basically my main speakers go into my amp pos/neg into pos neg - thats for two of them.. The amp then goes into the mixer in the mains altho there's a volume level on the amp too.

At the moment the monitors also go into the amp pos/neg into pos/neg, again for two of them but there's a switch on the amp to have either the main speakers / monitors / both BUT i cant basically turn the monitors down so it sounds like what you said and basically another amp.

    That sound right ??

I was looking into this a little while back and i worked out i need powered monitors which have a different kind of connection for plugging into the booth connectors on the back of the djm , they vary in price from reasonable to fooking expensive lol !!!!

yeah, sounds like you definitly need another amp to power the monitors separately. you'll only ever get the same level for both sets of speakers from one amp.

i've got mine set up like your after. i've actually just got a small (but pretty loud) sony mini-tower thing running the monitors which are on a shelf at head height above the decks, then have some big floor standers in a big amp either side of the decks. wouldnt be ideal for making tunes but just for djing it sounds class. So if youve got a spare system around the house you could try that?

Aye i get it now, basically id rig the other speakers into the new amp and then from the amp the lead would go into the booth monitor port on the djm500 ??

I always thought there'd be a way i could do it like i said but obviously not.

What's going rate for an amp, little one like i need?

    Cheers ;)

    exactly

As for what amp, cant really advise mate, it depends on how good your speakers are, how loud you want em, how much spare cash you have. May be even worth just getting a second hand one, should be something that would do on ebay for about 30 quid i would imagine.

    good luck

you'll need two amps, unless you have active monitors
