Modem driver? I've just bought a second PC and it has an internal modem, but no driver. I've tried to get the Windows programme to find it but it tells me that there isn't a modem fitted. How do I find out what the modem is so that I can locate a driver?
Re: Modem driver? Sounding like its a software based Win-Modem.....needs special drivers to emulate a real modem as it doesnt have its own cpu - so used your computers to do stuff... the drivers for these can be a pain to find!! what i wud do is to have a look on the modem itself for sum tell-tale signs of a manufactures name/model name.... if u can find them for me al prob be able to find u sum drivers..
Thanks for the help, I've been able to locate the driver. I've downloaded it and put it on to CD, then saved from the CD to the hard drive in the PC with the missing driver. It downloaded as a zip file, so I unnzipped it....but the PC still doesn't recognise that there's a modem present...what next?? :spangled:
Good good Ok, now you have the driver. It is unzipped but isn't installed (by the sounds of it. You need to install the driver to your system for it to work. In your control panel, use add new hardware to install it. (You may need to direct it to the driver, whevever you unzipped it to). Or, using device manager: 98/ME Right click my computer, choose properties, click device manager. 2k/XP Right click my computer, choose properties, click hardware, click device manager. In there find the device whether it is listed as other device or unknown device. It will probably be displayed with a yellow circled and black question mark. Open its properties and choose to either update the driver or install/reinstall it. (You may need to direct it to the driver, whevever you unzipped it to). If you get stuck, let me know....
