    Michael Owen

Look like he is gonna leave in the Summer, for someone who has been crying out for a contract for so long he is now gonna wait till the summer and i dare say score a boat loads of goals and get back into the England squad n put himself in the shop window more then fuck off :

    Update:
    Owen: no autographs

Despite optimistic noises from JFK in recent days about Michael Owen's long-term future, the player has moved to quosh speculation that he's about to put pen to paper:

"Following speculation about my future at Newcastle United, I have decided today to make it clear that I am committed to the club until at least the end of this season, and I have informed them I do not want to make a decision about my future until that time.

"I hope this will be seen as a positive step and not seen as being disloyal in any way.

"I am happy here and enjoy the challenge. It is simply a matter of seriously thinking about my future as I was 29 last week and my next career decision is a crucial one.

"My decision is not about money. I told the club some months ago that I would accept a reduction in my wages.

"I have no intention of leaving Newcastle United during the January transfer window and want to assure the fans that under Joe Kinnear's passionate management, I am committed with the rest of the players to ensure that the club ends the season on a high."

    Kinnear told the official website:

"Michael told me in person about his decision and I fully understand where he is coming from.

"We have a great relationship as captain and manager and that will certainly continue.

"He is focussed on scoring goals for Newcastle United and helping us keep progressing this season.

"Michael will consider his options in the summer but I am still optimistic that he will stay with us when it comes to making a decision.

In the meantime I have no doubts whatsoever that he will continue to give 100 per cent for Newcastle United.

"Having gone six games unbeaten we are a very happy camp at Newcastle United and Michael Owen plays a big part in that as skipper.

"I'm looking forward to him continuing to score goals for us as they will be crucial in what we do for the rest of the season."

While everyone will have an opinion about the "meaning"
of this, to us it's merely another by-product of the uncertainty casting a shadow across the club.

Being in the position of limbo that we are has actually made Owen's position easier - as well as a contractual "get out of jail card", he also has ready-made justification (or an excuse) for exercising his right to do nothing.

The futures of the owner and manager are shrouded in doubt, so why should the captain be any different?

However we can't help but wonder whether this statement deals a blow to the roadmap that seems to have been drawn up for Mike Ashley to return - if delivering Owen for three more years was his peace offering, what's Plan B?

Non of the big 4 would have him I dont think. Only team I could really see being able to accommodate him & him benefiting the team would be Man City, but there in a worse situation than us at present despite the money factor.
He's already put himself in the shop window imo, his form of late has been quality but it's the AGEEEEE OOOOLD question of how long will it last before he picks up another injury?

Having said that he looks seriously unhappy everytime he walks on that pitch for us...

If he leaves he will go to Man Utd as I very much doubt they will sign Tevez, unless Tevez £30 million price tumbles down to about £10 million.

Everton might but it'll be a finacial issue that would hold it up as i don't think everton could cope with his wage demands.

A move to west ham doesn't make sense.

I think Spurs would probably take him off your hands.

I would of thought he would of been sold in Jan for a couple of million before his contract runs out.

Makes me laugh when he says it's not about the money in that press release, if thats the case then why doesn't he join a team that could have him in January on a free? he knows he'd be playing for a lot less but has the potential to win so much more at somewhere like Arsenal, Man U etc...

I hope we can keep him, we need big players like him at the club to attract other big players in the future (not to mention what he can deliver), he's also worked really well with Martins imo & given a bit more time I think they could prove deadly in the future. If we can get in the top half of the table by June then id say theres no point in him making a move.

I think we'll win the league next season....

Did any of you lot REALLY THINK his move from REAL MADRID was anything but a stepping stone for a move back to a big team?

    hahahahaahaha

    Thats funny.

I think he truly thought Liverpool would come back in for him but then after he signed for you Rafa said he didnt want him. I bet Owens gutted hes wasted 4 years at Toon. The football club abyss has claimed yet another wasted career. :(

I have to disagree, he's got the chance to leave in January & all the bigger clubs have a brilliant chance to get him on a free (whilst on form & fit)... but he's came out & said he'll not decide until at least the summer, not to mention the fact nobody as far as I can see/read has shown any interest to temp him to leave?

He was injury prone at Liverpool, injury prone at Madrid, singed for us & low & behold..... got injured so if anyones wasted time it's been himself, no club can be held to ransom for that, he's spent more time on the bench than on the park in his career at nobody's fault other than himself & his polystyrene legs.

He is unhappy you can see that but if he wanted to go to any club between leaving Madrid & now he's had the chance?

Like I say, I think if we can finish top half of the table by June we could sway him into signing a new contract.

Would you want a player that only wants to stay for the money and the fact no one else wants him? He has no love for Newcastle UTD FC.

Every Skunk I speak to keeps slating him and pretending they want him to leave just so they cant be mocked when he does go

Not at all, everyone knows where his heart is, but the reality of it is that he'll never get to play for Liverpool now & as long as we pay his wages he has to be professional enough to not let that get in the way of his performance, which imho he has been, he's been brilliant for us when he's fit.

However I do agree with you partially, he is after money despite what he's came out & said, if he wasn't then theres no reason why he shouldn't move to a bigger club with a bigger potential of winning Silver... managers like Wenger who have always been a fan of him now have the chance to bag him on a free & Arsenal have the money to put him on Payroll, but he knows deep down he'd be playing for a fraction of what where ploughing into him, hence all the 'Christiano media bollox-escapade'

Bottom line is Owen will wait until the Summer and see who offers the most. He won't care where he plays. And yes Pike he has no love for Newcastle, but he doesn't really love Liverpool either. His one and only sporting love is in horse racing and thazt's why he needs as much as he can possibly muster to bankroll that venture once he retires.

Liverpool fans weren't arsed when he went to Madrid as they knew his wasn't in it. The only team Oen has ever kind of cared about is England. He's been on record to say before that he doesn't particularly like playing football, he only does it becasue he's good at it and it can earn him enough money to enable him to fulfil his dream and become a successful horse race owner.
