got a laptop that wont save anything to the floppy drive, just get the message that the media is write protected, when it is isnt. The laptop has been updated (formatted, win 2k installed) and still getting this problem. anyone got any ideas?

its giving you that message with a different floppy disk in each time?

have you checked that the floppy drive is enabled in the BIOS?

yep happens with different disks, can open documents on the disk, but wont save.

have checked the BIOS, but its so basic that it doesnt seem to have an option for it in there, restored the defaults as far as i know but still getting the write protected error

Sorry if this sounds patronising, but you do know when a floppy is write-protected? It is when you can see through both holes at either side of the floppy. Move the tab on the left hand side (looking at the back of the floppy) downwards to remove write-protection. Got to start with the basics first.
