Mandrake is nice.....tis nice n easy....

    Never really liked Redhat....

FreeBSD (a know its not linux heheh!) or Slackware are what I wud suggest tho :D

But - to be honest - unless u got a good need....stick to windows mate!

Redhat is good crack, my personal fave is version 7.2 (8.0 reminds me of XP far too much)

Mandrake is meant to be good, but I can't comment because I've never used it.

If you've never used linux before, don't start with slackware - it's hard as fuck!

A good starter would be SuSE :)

mandrake is an EXCELLENT starting point for linux......

Redhat has never been a fav of mine...not sure why if im honest its just never "felt" right..........

Slackware is secure but a pain in the arse!

SUSE is nice and user friendly.....as is Mandrake...problem with mandrake tho is that it aint as robust as the rest....and is a bit too in ur face graphic friendly...if this is wot u want tho...summit holding ur hand most of way, then its ideal!

Basically tho its all down to preferance....try a few out n see which YOU like best :)

Get a copy of vmware, makes learning a new OS alot easier. That way you can still google for help if you get stuck.

We use redhat for servers and some desktops although most people still use xp/2000 (as we can play redalert2 on win boxes).

Linux is great for networks yeah... but as a desktop pc..... Ive yet to know someone who runs linux (or variants) who DOESNT have a windows machine to fall back on when they hit a brick wall with linux...

    ... which happens alot :)
