Making use of old PC hardware?

I have the parts from inside my old Athlon XP 2400+, 512MB ram, Geforce 2 GTS..

It all works ok on a 'clean install' of XP as long as there isn't too much thrown at it so I was wondering if I could make use of it somehow?

I'm chucking the case away cos it's ugly, crap and has lots of sharp edges inside that have nabbed me on more than once occasion.

Assuming I bought a new (albeit somewhat smaller, indiscreet) case, a big hard drive and a video card with a Video Out on it, would this be an ok setup to use as a media player for the TV?

Along the same lines, what methods are used for media pc type stuff? Perhaps a function to record from tv or something. I've heard of some freeware stuff that does this but I know it won't run Windows media Center..

    what you need is this:

    http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html

runs on anything from an athlon 1800 upwards, and is much easier to use than it used to be - comes on a CD and installs like windows, does everything sky+ or a media centre PC can do.

oh and it's LEGALLY free
