Major Problem Can anyone help me ?? When i start me PC Up it comes up that the "Windows Registry or System INI" is missing and that its needed by Windows - ive tried looking in the recycle bin case what ive delered by accident is there but it seems it aint - thing is this aint my Pc ya see and the disk that i have for Windows now wont work as it says its outa date Does anyone know what it maybe or what i can do ?? so u can still get into windows ? if so go to the start menu - run - type msconfig there is a part on there that covers your system.ini file, look to see if any of the boxes have been unticked ! My boss aparantley says that if you restart the registery should b able to repair itself !
If you get stuck in a loop then this could be a problem cos your PC can't find a good copy of the registry. You could try booting to a DOS prompt and searching for USER.DA0 and SYSTEM.DA0 These are the backups of your registry files. Rename them to USER.DAT and SYSTEM.DAT If these files aren't present or you still get a registry error after renaming them then your only other option would be to reinstall Windows over the current installation. Hopefully this will retain paths to installed applications and restore any corrupted system files. Hope this helps.
The message that i get is "Cannt find a device file that maybe needed to run windows. The Windows registry or System INI refers to this device file but no longer exists, if you have deleted this file on perpose try re installing or setup the prog if you still want to use application assistance with the device file or try re installing that application" vsdata95.vxd Thats cut down a bit but thats what it says to me - ive looked in the Ms Config and there isnt any boxes that aint ticked which should be and same goes for the startup - my Pc aint been fixed either off re-starting it At the moment Windows is running fine bar that - i just wonder what it is or if its to worry about - obviosuly this sorta thing shouldnt come up if it aint meant to ! :spangled:
John, have you installed any new software/hardware lately?, you normally get that error when somethings been installed and the software/drivers havn't installed properly. Its most likely that its associated with a program than windows itself, so running windows shouldnt be a problem.
Aye, Kids right. If Windows appears to run OK then it's not a prob. If you wanna tidy it up to get rid of the error just use sysedit and regedit to search for that exact entry and delete all occurences of it. I've done this loads of times and it causes nee botha.
Its all sorted I had deleted a programme im using to stop pop ups which was only a trail - when ive re installed it there is nee problems now Happy as fuck - thought me mam was gonna gan off it - i might of even got grounded
