    Magpies Launch Double Raid!!

Newcastle United have made a double bid for Fenerbahce's Nicolas Anelka and Fulham's Luis Boa Morte.

Chairman Freddy Shepherd has confirmed The Magpies have made move for the pair, although it is understood The Cottagers have swiftly rejected the offer for Boa Morte.

"We have made an offer to Fulham for Luis Boa Morte," Shepherd told the club's official website.

"We've also tabled a bid with Fenerbahce for Nicolas Anelka. We are now waiting for replies from both clubs."

The North East outfit are desperate to bolster their attacking options, with only Alan Shearer, Michael Chopra and Shola Ameobi available to manager Graeme Souness.

Anelka has only been in Turkey for six months following his move from Manchester City, while Newcastle have been long-term suitors for Boa Morte.

The Portuguese winger was in blistering form at St James' Park last season, scoring in Fulham's stunning 4-1 success and he is also believed to have attracted interest from Middlesbrough.

    Boa Morte's been rejected

Anelka's bid is as yet undecided :p

Interesting two signings to be fair, are they any better than what we had in Robert/Bellamy and will then not bring as much trouble to the club ?!?!

    Hmmmmmm...

Trickle you make me laugh. If you seriously think that Anelka wont be trouble, you need your head read. Hes not called The Incredible Sulk for nothing. Changes clubs on almost an annual basis, no loyalty whatsoever. No heart. No real will to win.

Anelka might get you a few more goals than Bellamy, but theres way more to football than than, and id rather have Bellamy on my team any day.

But sadly hes gone, so we do need someone. Anelka is not the answer though. He might have a flashy 6 months, because he is actually talented. But hes bads news.

Boa Morte is very good. Id like to see him here. Whether Souness can get the best out of him is another matter.

Newcastle United are closing in on a deal for Nicolas Anelka.

French souces insist that The Magpies are set to conclude a move for the 26-year-old striker, who only moved to Fenerbahce in January.

Fener are reportedly ready to let Anelka leave, but only for the €11 million fee which they paid Manchester City for him.

Newcastle have so far bid €8.5 million, but they are ready to up their offer and could even sew up the deal within 48 hours.
