    Macdonalds to close 25 'restaurants'

I see Macdonalds is going to close 25 of its 'restaurants' as it makes an attempt to change its image.

I wonder if this is the beginning of the end for Maccy D's? As much as the stuff they sell has its fans..... nobody can really deny its just highly salted, sugary crap.

Would people like to see Macdonalds change its image completely and offer healthier and healthier fast food? Or maybe you'd like to see them go out of business and be something we can tell our kids about? ..... Or maybe you'd like things to stay the same?

i'd like them to make their food more healthy - but not change their menus or get rid of them - i go to macdonalds to get a burger - not a bag of fruit.

People have free will - if they choose to eat burgers they should have the choice.

Blaming the company who makes the food for getting you overweight is straight back to the 'its not my fault' culture.

The goverment should do more promote healthier food, make it cheaper, give incentives to companies that supply/sell healthier/organic food

As a kid I used to love Mcdonalds but since watching that program where the guy did nothing but eat Mcdonalds it has put me off. Plus the fact than 1p out of everything sold is used to help the IRA

Their healthier stuff does look nice but I wouldn’t go back

The sad thing is that the reason they are closing is that they are facing greater competition from chain sandwich shops like Subway, and places like Starbucks, both of which I hate even more than I hate McDonalds.

Support your local sandwich shop (places like Baps piss all over the chain cafes)!

I dont mind subway or starbucks really... its a total herd mentality to 'denounce' chains (most of which are independent franchises) at the minute...

I don't really mind the food they serve, a lot of independent sandwich shops etc will be using even cheaper quality ingredients and more than likely, even less 'ethically sourced' ingerients than the 'evil empire' of chains...

McDonalds/Burger King are pretty rough though...

Not at all. It just annoys me that oen of them is popping up about every 50 yards or so on every high street in every town in the country. What happened to a bit of variety?

Worst ive ever seen was in San Francisco - You could literally not go 2 blocks without there being a starbucks or two (or three) being within a stones throw of each other.

    It was stupendous.

Yeah, theres a popular movement against big business and globalisation - much of it is herd mentality yeah..... but its something i'd eventually like to see people have a return to being proud of simple, local, labour intensive products (food wise).

Theres nothing better than properly made coffee, properly raised and cooked meat, and seasonal vegetables ... It sounds a bit sappy to alot of people maybe but im sick of bland, tasteless, supermarket crap.

you think ye olde locale shoppe raises its own chickens the back yard and pays a little old man called pedro to grow your coffee in coloumbia?

small shops buy the same crap as big shops.. maybe its more imaginative and you get that more personal touch and I agree it is shitty to see all these chains popping up.. my gripe is with the 'twee' brigade..

Starbucks aim to have another store within sight of walking out the front door of another starbucks. In big cities they have already done this in America and some canadian cities.

Not at all - even 'organic' stuff is questionable. But at the end of the day, a shift in public opinion from following brands to craving authenticity and quality is more likely to get people moving back towards a more idealistic means of farming etc.

There are plenty of schemes down in the south for organic box delivery from local farms, and the same goes for meat and other kinds of produce. Granted theres more money flowing around here - but with all the land in the UK sitting doing nothing, all it takes is the right seeds to be sown in the minds of young people (and everyone else)

.... Things like fairtrade and the co-op's support of it are the right way forward. At the end of the day people are willing to get behind these kinds of things if given the chance.

Yeh we have a farm up here in newcastle which delivers to work boxes of organic veg. I do work an environment agency though so i assume not a lot of other work places offer this.

I hate that - with the prices they charge, and the hit and miss nature of what they serve anyways, im glad i pretty much stopped going a few years back (aside from the odd one now and again).

How are subways any different from mcdonalds?!?!?

starbucks sells healthy food and kosher coffee - so it seems strange to group it with junk food.

Do not mention subways. I was abusing the subway at 2.30 last fri night when I was out of control battered!

I wanted to sit on the stools but it isn't allowed to put them down after a certain time and i was doing a "wahtever, am i boveres...yeh whatever" rant at my unfortunate friend and her collegue who work therre! Then proceeded to reach into an empty fridge for a drink, then a blank, then eating half of someone elses subway then returning home and chucking it straight back up! I am a classy bird!

i did, talk about gullible

as for McDonald's, i still like a big mac everynow and then, you go to mcdonalds for a grease burger and not health food... if its a one off meal then its not a problem. its the sunny d tanned masses who take their ugly sprogs and fill them up on the junk everyday that need a boot up the backside, and people wonder why their kids all have add!
