    Luciano - Essential Mix (Jan' 26th 2008)

Not sure how others perceived this mix. It got a bit of criticism for being very "bias" towards Cadenza. I enjoyed it though...

I have to say I think Luciano is a quality dj who i've seen loads of times but this EM is piss poor, woeful effort from a usually class dj.

Theirs nothin fresh about the mix at all and his biggest tracks on the mix are all old news from last year, dissapointing from someone who owns a decent record label!

I havnt listend to this mix and don't intend to by peoples responses, but as far as Luciano playing to a crowd, I'd say he's the best in the business.

havent had a chance to listen to this mix yet, people have told me it drags on a bit and is canny flat thou

personally i think luciano is brailliant, seen him play a hand full of time now and he has blown me away each time

i think the way he uses the EQs in the mixer to get the best out of every tune is class. when he played wax on to me it felt like he had the crowd in the palm of his hand

cant wait to see him again in the summer

I went to see him when he cancelled Wax: On late last year and was gutted 'cos I couldn't make it back in December :( I know how he works the crowd though and normally selects the best records for the moment. However, I've never thought his djing skills were amazing. Yes he's unreal on the DC10 terrace etc... but there's loads of times I've heard him and even his beat matching's been all over the place.

I agree though, it's a shame he didn't recreate his terrace magic of the last few Ibiza seasons in this set. I still don't think it's as bad as some people are making out mind and I still rate him very highly as a dj.

I've never seen him live but I like a lot of the records I see in his playlists

Loads of house music (especially the more stripped down stuff) doesnt translate too well onto tape (or cd/mp3) but when played loud in a dark room it sounds absolutely immense.

This mix on the other hand was just pure laziness and was just used as a way to make money imo.

If you are into Luciano etc then id recommend that Cassy set, bit more stripped down and chicagoey than Luciano but great dance music all the same.

This essential mix is a let down due to his complete laziness. He is an awesome DJ with a unique style and thats what sets mosts big name DJ's apart from the rest. At Wax On he was excellent but towards the end of his set he was starting to get quite repetitive. Id like to see him play a long set - ive got a feeling anything more than 2 hours and you'd see how limited he actually is as a DJ.

thought it sounded ok to me, I know nowt about this kinda stuff, certainly didn't blow my socks off or anything though, the 2nd hour would probably have me dancing,

alot of it sounded like old classic/music for freaks b-sides which is a good thing, reminded me of luke solomons spun out mix cd on classic from a few years back at times :D

sods law the one track I wanna know is the Sinnerman sampling thing between the Guido Schneider and Kabale Und Liebe tunes at about 80mins and it's the only one without an id

    Guido Schneider 'Albertino' (Cadenza)
    Unknown Artist Bootleg
Kabale Und Liebe & Daniel Sanchez 'Mumbling Yeah' (Arearemote)

On the subject of terrace-rinsers - Matthew Dear played at the uni a couple of weeks ago, did anyone go? Or hear anything about his performance?
