It's club classics and RnB, plus some sort of VIP area.

Was in last night and saw the posters up for it. Looks like your generic saturday night in a commercial club in Newcastle, except it seems cheap (they're quoting £2 drinks on the posters and something vague about cheap entry).

Not sure who is the main room, but I expect it'll be CJ Costigan or somebody similar playing commercial & chart house.

They're apparently modeling their approach on Sea nightclub with a view to getting its punters.
So much so in fact that they've actually poached Sea's Saturday RnB DJs to play in room 2.

The V.I.P. is being hosted by Nice (although all of the original Nice backroom DJs have opted to stay on board at the Cosmic on Saturdays).

The queues for Sea on a Saturday are insane so plenty of punters to go around.

True, but if it keeps them in business alongside running specialist nights, it can't be all bad.

Plus, noone's forcing us to go :)

Nice to hear it from such a well recognised and respected source - If the Leotard says it it must be true - you truly are the Daily Star of clubland

Graham – you are correct – so for the record:

    ‘Goodbye my friends…. it’s not the end….

Over the last couple of months we have had a number of
discussions with Shindig about the future. After gallons of
tea and the odd Ginger Nut we reached a consensus.

Shindig has always been pure to its task and in the ever changing
musical and financial climate we believe change is the best way forward
for everybody – for Shindig, for Clubbers and for Digital.

We have had many a magical moment with Shindig – at Digital
and for many years before - we wish them the very best –
    they are family after all.

However, moving forward, from Sat 25th July there will be change at
    Digital on Saturdays.

After all, change is inevitable - except from a vending machine’

That’s the ‘official’ statement but as a bit of an insight let’s not forget the following:

Shindig was the longest running weekly house night in the UK
(if not the world) - 17 years – no other talent lead clubnight has remained weekly

It’s weekly regularity caused dilemmas because, being talent driven, on occasion
compromises had to be made – not something Shindig have ever been comfortable
with – when they say TRUE House they mean it

There are not 52 Shindig line ups in the current musical landscape that people want to see
so less is more and will be good for the scene

Because Shindig was every week people attended as they would a convenience store –
    this meant numbers dropped off

Ask yourself the question how many times you turned out in the last year?

The change will be good – Shindig will be something to look forward to rather
than drop in to coz it’s there – Shindig deserves this – I for one am looking
forward to be able to go as a punter for the first time in a long time

As for Saturdays at Digital we are not following anybody’s ‘model’ – we are going
to do what we do nearly every night of the year – we are going to throw a big fuck off party

Pricing (and music policy) will reflect the times – don’t berate us for this – sure it won’t
be everyone’s cup of tea but don’t judge it before you try it – that’s what old folk do –
we have a free bar this Saturday between 11 and midnight so PM me if you want to come down –
    it will be FUN

Naturally, Digital will continue to host the best DJ talent the world has to offer on a Friday night -
as well as supporting local, hard working talent (you know who you are)

Sorry that was a bit of a marathon post but something so dear to the heart needs to be explained - Peas Out

Hate to say it but Mr Stone speaks the truth - Scott was telling me recently that there's only been 3 weekends where numbers at shindig have been over the 1000 mark. Fatboy Slim and Prydz were two, I can't remember the third. Average turnout has been around the 600-800 level.

Everywhere is finding it hard going at the moment. I DJ in a "commercial" venue and at the moment our club has it's back to the wall. Turnout over a weekend is less than we'd get in one saturday 3 years ago and it's not due what we're doing or what state the club/punters are in.

We've dropped our drinks to £2 or less, our entry is £1 in before 11 and £3 after, yet people still aren't interested in coming out (probably because they're too skint given the climate).

When names like Fanciulli and Lawler only pull 800 odd people in, something is seriously wrong. I turned up at both and had enough room to swing a cat round in the middle of the dance floor.

If a commercial night helps to keep digital afloat for specialist nights like wax on, godskitchen, gatecrasher, turbulence (and hopefully the odd shindig one-off), then I'm all for it.

    Definitely

It's totally opened up the doors again (for the music im into) & gave the City a breath of fresh air from playing to 40/50 people in a club (most of whom are your mates) with zero atmosphere. We've had different brands & different concepts throughout 2008/9 so far with some amazing DJ's (both headliners & local talent). Digital's been full, musics been great, production for certain nights bang on. People are getting off the sofa & wanting to turn out for Trance nights again - in force.

I think with the Dig's new schedule & there 1st line-up, they also have the potential to totally turn things round. It'll give people the opportunity to miss the night again, making the events they do put on that bit more special.
