    Locksmiths

This has to be the greatest job on earth.

I came home last night to find my lass had basically went half way across the country and not left me any keys and i didnt have any on me either.

I had to eventually get an emergency locksmith to come out and get me in my place. He drilled the lock out, put a new barrel in and was done in about 30-40 minutes.

Cost .... 125 quid! 75 for the labour and 40 for the new lock.

He was a well young lad and told me that he'd done a weeks intensive course to be a locksmith and after that he was in business.

Makes you wonder eh! All those years at uni, and all that debt. Or you could go on a weeks course and suddenly be raking it in.

    It's not that great really.

Probably a bit of profit on the lock, and out of the 75 for labour, he'll be lucky to see half after paying tax, petrol and overheads etc. Plus that's emergency rate, it'll probably be loads less during the day. I'm on, and guess you are too, more than £30 an hour because of uni and student loans etc.

Obviously i have the advantage of being contracted for 7-8 full hours a day so its guaranteed (kind of, since im not a permie) income ...

... But for someone that age, even if you came out with a 'pittance' of 30 quid an hour, your knocking on for 5-8 times minimum wage.

My uni degree has made me precisely NOTHING compared to what i do now, so thats another story. But im betting theres going to be alot of people out there who will wonder what their investment actually got them.

Do your 'customers' know you are drilling their locks through, for free, when they are out at work though? ;)
