Live web mixes? How would i go about doing it, without too much money or effort involved, say through winamp?
www.shoutcast.com get the winamp plugin and download the server stoof and broadcast stoof (cant really remember did it in the summer ).. all the instructions are on shoutcast... erm.. make sure u have broadband....
crasherkid is right, simple case of downloading shoutcast, loading winamp and plugging ur mixer/output into the pc. Hoorar
You need broadband. Unless you have a mate with broadband who's willing to let you borrow his bandwidth for a while every now & then. Even then, don't expect to be able to play out to many listeners Your typical broadband (512k download 256k upload) link has 256kbits/sec available for streaming. Each listener needs their own stream coming from your server, so say you were broadcasting a 20kbit stream (sh1te quality stereo) - at 256kbits/sec you could have about 12 listeners at once. On a good day. If you're not fussed about having many listeners, go to www.radiodestiny.com Your listeners will need to download a player from www.radiodestiny.com to tune in, but wtf - it's dead easy to set up (like it takes 10 minutes FFS!) and they automatically list you in their directory. I've tried shoutcast, realserver etc - all are much harder to set up. If you're just gonna be pissing about, use the radiodestiny stuff. Oh - have I mentioned - technically you need a licence to broadcast copyrighted material on the internet. Not that there's much chance of being caught if you're not advertising & marketing it or anything. Fees START at £2000 a year and are much more for internet only stations (go figure THAT!). A mate of mine used to run a Realserver in the backroom of an internet caff - we streamed to it from The Trades in Consett (uhh!) over ISDN & it was shockingly bad quality. If you wanna reach an audience of 10-20 people, send tapes or CDs out - save your time If you want to have loads (i.e. 100s of listeners), get some serious financial backing. a 2Meg pipe (approx. 10x faster than ADSL upload speed) costs a couple of grand a year to run (and the rest) and even that's only enough for about 120 listeners. Oh yeah - this internet radio stuff sucks bigtime. Until a new thingumy called IP v6 comes out and everyone has it - where internet radio will become more like 'normal' radio - i.e. instead of every listener's PC chatting to the server (two ways) they just LISTEN for bits of music on one 'frequency'. The thing which will make all his happen is called MULTICASTING, which as its name suggests, is sending one piece of info to many places at the same time. Currently most internet data transfers happen between point A & point B via points C,D,E,F,G.... (etc). IP v6 will change all that. Instead, it'll say "here is the shit from DJ Crasherkid's live mix...." and your listener's PCs will be sitting there sucking it all up. Now, it's like "okay, here's Crasherkid's mix - who wants it?" and all the PCs are going "ME!"... "send me some more... oh no - send the last bit again coz I missed it" and everything gets slowed down. Well, someone did say this is the GEEK'S CORNER - here I am peeps!!!! Reet - I'm off to record my (internet) radio show now before I go out @ the weekend. FYI I record it AS LIVE without any editing tricks unlike that TW@ Pearce.
