Is Lightscribe media version 2 just an update from 1.2 or is it a guideline for hardware?

I can't find any info for my ASUS DRW-2014L1T regarding the version it supports and people I've asked have no idea if a drive has to support version 2, or if it's simply an improvement in print quality of the disks.

    Thank you

And where is a good place to buy media? (lightscribe, or normal - Tuffdisk are my favourite)

is lightscribe any good anyway? i've heard very little of it and it just seems a bit gimmiky to me - and does it not decrease the burn life of the drive massively?

I haven't heard anything like that, but I also haven't used lightscribe yet. If it does decrease the life, then it's only £20 or less to replace so it's not exactly a massive problem :p I just like the idea of having nicely printed names on my disks tbh :p

    :cool2:

i need an external DVD writer before i have to replace the lovely (and fucking stupidly expensive to replace) slot load writer in this thing. reports are predicting that you get about 10,000 full burns off it. i'm not trusting that
