Last Nite..... how many of u peeps attended, lee said it was quiet just wondering who went and if it was any good????
Building... True, but consider Retro, at Yarm; it took over 6 months to build up. Look at the night now, 6000 -7000 clubbers once a month dancing to early retrospective music. It works. The Bank holiday had a massive draining effect on the first night, but the Town, South Shields and Sunderland, were also very quiet as people save themselves for Sunday nights revelry. The people who attended enjoyed themselves and that is more effective than most advertising; word of mouth is a powerful tool. Lee!
I thought with it being a bank holiday weeekend it would b quiet. your rright word of mouth is a very powerful tool i think in time this nite will take off.
Re: Building... There was one place that wasn't 'quiet'!!!! (Hint: the world's #1 DJ was playing!!!) Just goes to show, get the 'BIG' names in and you'll get the crowd be it a bank holiday or not!!!!
I went. It's not really my cup of tea but it was still alright. Got talking to a few guys who were nearing there 30's who have not been out clubbing for years and only came out because it was old school stuff. I only knew a few songs but, as it really isn't my era.
Re: Re: Building... tis true the big boy's will pull a crowd whatever. i dont think promise could book them tho.
Re: Re: Re: Building... Why not? The night itself might make a bit of a loss (altho I'm sure it would be rammed and people wouldn't mind a few quid paying extra, I wouldn't) but in the long run think of the amount of people it could attract to the place?
Re: Re: Re: Re: Building... Although the shack is a lot bigger (i think) so can fit more people in to pay the huge (I would guess) fee that Tiesto would charge! IMO it would be worth booking him even if it meant making a loss on the night!
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Building... the shack have got mauro to promise booking corsten shud bring a few more big names
Re: Re: Building... Thats obvious. Give us a shout when you have the enormous fee he commands and I'm sure, at great financial loss to yourself, we'll get him on and it wont be 'quiet' at all. After all the charvas love him to bits. One DJ does not 'the scene' make. Think about it.
Re: Re: Re: Building... NO but get him, say at a higher cost, charger a little extra (we paid 12.50 on Friday, without grumble) and watch the crowds and money pour in!!!! And then once they're in and enjoy themselves (which they undoubtedly will) they'll come back again. It's all about attracting people to the club in the first place isn't it???? I wasn't for one moment saying 'he' makes the scene, but he doesn't half help add to the attraction of the club itself!!!!! Personally I think risking the 'enormous' fee he commands would be worth it.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Building... I think I have lost count of the number of high profile DJ's that Promise has had play; arguably each holds an important place in the global music and dance scene. Do these players not 'attract' clubbers, or will you only venture out when the 'worlds number 1' is playing. If that is the case, your social life will be sparse indeed, as well as your palette of musical enjoyment. My advice is to remove your blinkers, which are usually a product of media hype, and try to appreciate other DJ's styles and music. Do you really need to be told a DJ is the world’s number one to enjoy him? Can you not make up your own mind as to which DJ's are good and bad? It would be magic if your statement 'watch the crowds and money pour in!!!! And then once they're in and enjoy themselves (which they undoubtedly will) they'll come back again' was practical, but unfortunately it is not workable in the real world. The Sharon and Tracey clubbers, along with a hoard of charvas descend on any club when they see a 'celebrity' DJ is on the bill, that DJ could play MR Blobby and Steps, but since they are famous they don’t really care. They just want to see a star and chant his or her name. They care nothing for the scene or the music generally. Promise is constantly developing and evolving, I have come to realise just how much blood sweat and tears goes into the weekly running of the club. It is not an easy task, it is not enough to simply book a big DJ and assume the 'cash will roll in with happy punters' Promise will always try to give excellent music at a reasonable cost. If a majority of the board members who constantly grumble about the club actually turned up and attended the night, it would be a different matter altogether. Thank about that one with your ‘enormous fee’
but tiesto is amazing. i have been a massive fan since he first arrived on the UK scene mid '99. i like him not because he is the 'world number 1 DJ', but because i like the music he plays. promise should book him. he is class. i would pay £15 to see him, which would cover his costs im sure. (not just my £££ of course, but a club full.)
