    Laptop Power Problems

I haven't used my laptop for the last 3-4 months as I thought I had somehow damaged the power input on the back of the computer and had never got around to getting it fixed... its pretty old and only really used for Football Manager on journeys etc.

For ages its been skipping a little as its constantly switching from the battery to charging and back again, then the few times I have managed to get some charge into the battery it'll work completeley fine while not plugged in. Soon as it connected to the mains though it'll start skipping again.

This led me to believe that it was a problem with the connection on the mains adapter and after trying a few different and they all did the same presumed it must be the connection in the laptop.

Yesterday I realised that if I remove the battery and just use the mains it works fine, but soon as I connect the battery (which now won't take any charge) the laptop turns itself off ignoring the fact that its still plugged into the mains.

The computer is pretty old so I'm just presuming that the battery has died and I need a new one.

Has anyone else had this problem? Seems pretty stupid that even though the battery is fooked it won't even let me use the mains while its connected.

Disabled the battery in the control panel now... so got it working by the mains properly.

could be the logic board/psu board too maybe - difficult to pin down as laptops are a nightmare to repair as you can't replace individual bits.

see if u can get a scrap 1 off ebay with for example, a knackered screen - then scavenge parts from it

Reckon I'll just get a new battery... like a say its pretty old and think I saw a battery for it for 20 quid on ebay.

Its more annoying than anything else.
