Laptop or a PC Need something for uni in September. Moving away from home. I'd like a laptop for the fact that it's portable, but I like the idea of getting a pc tower and a cheap monitor cos I could get a spec about 5x better for the same price. Budgeting myself at about £500. Do people who have bought laptops in the past instead of a PC regretted it much? I really don't know if I'd take the laptop around with me for eg to lectures.
get a desktop when someone spills a drink on your notes all the lights stay on and there's no risk of fire.
I'm in two minds. laptop = space saving, can be used whilst lying in bed/on the train/bus/car, is convenient. PC = cheaper, able to play games I have a 360 so I don't know if I should just get a laptop :/
I'm not a laptop fan, Desktop all the way for me as far as everyday use. I do want a cheap laptop for the summer though for general browsing in the garden sun bathing or for use on a train etc..
laptop. love mine however i can't really accomodate space for a desktop and i need to take my laptop with me occasionally. laptops are good and bad at lectures, you can make quaility notes however i found that i ended up fannying about on here more than anything
I looked at netbooks but i hate the screen sizes. I'm just gonna look at a refurbished laptop and look to pay about £250-30.wont be getting one for a few months yet mind.
laptop i use mine in the van, in bed while on holiday etc etc..its fully speced up too never lacked anything desktops are as dead as nightclubs
had both and prefer a laptop, although, in my first year at uni i only ever seen one person have a laptop at a lecture suppose it depends what course you do. if you are storing alot of music etc then a desktop but if its just for uni, researching, browsing, id go for the laptop for convenience!!!
or why not get a desktop, but also get a new contract phone with the free laptop and dongle from carphone warehouse i think it is
Pft. Still got about a year left on my current one. I've just accepted a place at Cumbria uni today, and the rooms aren't the most spacious that I've seen, so it may be the laptop. I just feel like I'm conning myself since you can get a much better pc for the same price. I'll see if my mam and dad are offering to pay, then decide Space on the hdd etc doesn't come into it, it's coming down to space saving vs quantity at the end of the day.. I fucking hate making decisions like this. Whatever i choose, i'll be wishing i'd did the other thing after..
Desktop all the way tbh. Fully specced up they cost less and operate better imo (based upon voltages and heat causing slowdown on laptops). Laptop Keybaords also suck.
nah trust me mate, regardless of spec you'll be glad of getting the laptop. i still play a few games on mine only around the same level as CS source mind. plus you can hide the cunt and not have to worry about it getting abused by roommates.
I do really want a laptop like. All the <£500 laptops have a screen res of like 1366 x 768 though, and I like my text tiny. If I can find a 15" laptop for under £400 - £500, with: Core 2 Duo T5xx or higher, 4GB ram, Resolution of blah x 900+ and an ok sized hdd I'll probably buy it.. a graphics card would be sweet but the majority don't have them apart from Asus. I'll be buying an external hdd anyway so hdd space on the laptop isn't a big deal.
